File Explorer can't create new folder

I have a new laptop which came with Windows 10 Home 2004, during my install/update/clean process it got updated to 20H2. I partitoned the disk and created a Users folder on drive D.

At some point since File Explorer stopped creating new folders, right clicking doesn't show the option and the new folder button does nothing. I have already run SFC checked owner/permissions.

Programs such as Winrar can create folders as part of saving files to folders that do not yet exists and CMD and PowerShell work normally. As it's a new laptop I haven't installed much so I can at this point easily just re-install Windows but I would like to know why it is not working.

I think it's worth trying in Safe mode and it's worth trying with a new user [i.e. create one for testing purposes, keep things simple by making a local user account rather than an MSAccount-linked one].
Boot into Safe Mode - TenForumsTutorials
Add Local Account or Microsoft Account - TenForumsTutorials

Just so you know the new folder button appears in the toolbar.

I created another local account. I usually like a spare on my machine anyway in case the profile get corrupted. That wokred fine so I just deleted the old main account and created it again. As I keep both my Firefox and Thunderbird profiles in the user folder on the D drive it doesn't take to long to do and be back to where I was. Just a dew settings to deal with.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

    Glad it's fixed.

    And welcome to TenForums.
It's really worth making time to browse through the Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every page.
    - At the foot of the Tutorial index is a shortcut to download it as a spreadsheet.
    - I download a new copy each month so I can benefit from Excel's filtering capabilities when I search for topics of interest.
    - Tutorials are also listed by category at www.tenforums.com/tutorials

    All the best,
    Denis

I find Ten Forums an incredibly useful resource and have soved many problems from reading the posts here. It's usually the first place I turn to. I used Eight and Seven Forums before that. I have bookmarked the Tutorials Index and will have a peruse from time to time.

I have been using computers since I first wrote a program for our school's Commodore Pet with external tape recorder back in 1981 and still find discovering and building new systems with them fun. I've been out of the programming business for a while but am slowly trying to get myself back up to speed, firstly with C and then onto something mobile based.

Thank you to all them moderators and top posters here for their wealth of information and knowledge and wish to share that with others (the really good things about the WWW).
