    Restore windows

    Hi All

    Windows 10 HP Omen Laptop

OK so my newer laptop has been having few issues.

First the battery is dead that I know as if I unplug the laptop it just turns off since no battery power. It is an internal battery and which I was able to remove as there was some thoughts that it might be causing the other issue I am having.

The other issue is a blue screen of death. Unfortunately removing the battery did not resolve the BOD

So I finally gave up and tried to just restore the system hoping it was a software and not a hardware issue so I went through that whole process of restoring the system got like 98% to 99% completed and then bam BOD pops up and refuses to let me finish the restore and then reverts everything back to where I was before I started the restore.

First would having the battery removed be causing this even if with the battery being dead?

If not what I can I do to restore the laptop to working order being it is giving me the BOD during the last parts of the restore and denying me a clean system.

    Thoughts

    Thanks

Basic thing you should do- get a live boot disk and run a disk check.

E.g. Google Kyhi's, Bob Omb's, Gandalf's, Hiren's live boot disk.. download, create a bootable flash drive from that (that's using appropriate commands or a utility such as Rufus - see tutorial on creating a flash drive to install Win 10 for example instructions) then run a disk checking program on the live boot disk- varies from boot disk to boot disk- or e.g. Crystal Diskinfo portable.

Or remove the disk, put it in a caddy, check it on another PC.

If the PC fails to run when booted from the live boot disk- that too would be indicative...hardware issue.

I have no problem booting the computer is a random BOD just pops up when it desires to.

Just having issues restoring the computer it BOD's right at the very end of the restore like when it is booting up at the very end of the restore.

But just to boot up the computer isn't an issue.

    Thank you for your reply.

Precisely how were you trying to restore the system?
    - a Backup and Restore (Win 7) system image?
    - System Restore point?
    - a disk image?
    - something else?

    The process failed to complete.

    Therefore I reiterate - test the disk(s).

As you can boot, try Hard Disk Sentinel (trial).

Specifications? Make and model? Driver download page? Tutorials available to get specs.
Click My Computers under my post for an example.

The forum prompted you thus (so we don't have to keep asking):

Newer laptop still under warranty for battery issue ? And possible hardware issue ?

Please click My Computer in your avatar column and complete the specs for your system. Very helpful to solve issues.

Windows 10 and I had not noticed that so didn't think about it when I posted!

    No Warranty left.

As for restore I tried via the security and update page in settings to restore it back to factory specs.

I don't have that computer booted up at the moment but it's an HP Omen as for other specs not sure until I have chance to boot it up and see. But is lunch time so no time at the moment to check that til later.
