Upgraded, CPU, MOBO, M.2, RAM, PSU, Now computer is restarting all day

    Upgraded, CPU, MOBO, M.2, RAM, PSU, Now computer is restarting all day


    So I decided to upgrade some hardware. Old stuff has been around for about 2 years.


    Once everything was done my computer will stay on for maybe 15 minutes at a time. Monitors will go black and the computer restarts.

    PSU, is brand new

    The motherboard is brand new

    CPU is brand new

    M.2 is brand new.

    I did a Memtest86+ test on my current ram, ran it for like 24 hours had over 13 passes, no errors.


    I dont know what to do at this point... Im needing help

    1) Disconnect the reset wire coming from the front of the PC to the motherboard.

    2) A cpu over temp will cause a restart, are you using and watching Core Temp ?

    Hi,

    The experienced here on this forum are probably going to need more information starting off with OS version and build.

    It could be one or several things, simple to the more difficult, from a simple setting, hibernation or when screen should go on or off, memory module, poor cable connection.

    It's been known but I doubt its your new PSU or anything to do with your new MOBO,

    The more experienced hopefully will be along shortly and provide you with practical solutions and not links.

    Boot the PC from a WinPE or Linux USB device and see whether the same problem will arise.

    As in, reinstall Windows 10 on a USB? Will this not delete everything from my hard drives?

    Hello @irishwheels , welcome to Ten Forums.


    Try re-seating the RAM, and make sure it's in slots 2 and 4 counting away from the CPU.

    And, as @AddRAM has mentioned... check your temps. Improper application of thermal compound could also cause this.

    This will not do anything to your hard drives. For details, see Update installation error

    I know Irish's MOBO is new but am wondering if a ropey CMOS battery might be a cause or a board jumper if any?

    That's a VERY good point.

    Many times, NEW motherboards come from the manufacturer with weird BIOS settings, left there by quality assurance testers.

    Might want to try setting the BIOS to defaults as well.

    Remove the battery and then put it back after 30 seconds.
