PC 'Crashes' - Still Hear Sound and Move Mouse Until Fully Crashes

    Hello,

Sorry if this is the wrong area for some help on this issue. My system spec I have just added to my profile.

My problem tends to occur quite often whenever I leave my PC afk or even just playing low performance games/browsing (youtube) and such. So I know it is nothing solely to do with playing taxing games. It doesn't happen THAT frequently that it bothers me but sometimes it can happen a few times in one day then not happen for a while. If you want me to post any more information then just let me know. I would greatly appreciate any help on this matter.

Best way I can explain this so you know how much of my PC is still running until it fully crashes is through a scenario here.

Playing a low spec game with a friend, talking through Discord. I know when my PC crashes as all my RGB lights freeze up and I lose the sound in my game first, and shortly the game will crash or anything moving on screen will freeze. After that I can still hear my friend talking to me through Discord, this could be up to a good few minutes. I can still move my mouse and alt tab, cant view the Desktop. I can control alt delete to get my task manager up but it doesn't let me end anything. That is about it, usually then it all grinds to a halt and each time I have to hard power off my PC. Doesn't let me turn off PC the proper way either. ---- Or if I have say Radio 1 playing, that would continue to play as well until it fully crashes.

What does you RAM usage look like when this happens? Is it being maxed out, like there is a memory leak from the game or another program?

Is your disk usage high? Both of these could cause your system to crawl to a halt like this.

As far as I can remember I don't think that is happening. I think I would have noticed that. So I think RAM and Disk usage is just normal but I will confirm this and update this to you when it next happens.

Does Reliability History have entries covering the problem events ? If so,the ---view tech details---lines 1 & 2 should give information as to the cause.
Also check ---dxdiag--- for any entries, note down the driver version on the Display page.
If you are able to,use Display Driver Uninstaller [DDU] to completely remove all traces of the existing driver and download that version,or later if available, from the maker's site only.Go through the download package and uncheck any components not applicable to your needs.

Reliability History never shows anything other than a critical error for an unexpected shutdown, I am guessing due to me hard powering it down. I will post a pic to show you that is all I get. Nothing before or after in the log. That the day it happened 3 times, I had a couple afk sessions. I wasn't even playing any games.

I checked dxdiag and no notes/problems found. I checked on display for my version and just want to make sure is this what you mean before I do anything else. Where do I even find that version again to reinstall it? The date is nearly a year old, has it not been updating or something? My driver files seem to think they are up to date.

DDU, where is the correct place for this software?

    DDU from---wagnardsoft.com---
Download existing and new driver and copy to a usb stick for safe keeping.
Drivers, especially display adapters, are often the cause of freezing and a simple uninstall/reinstall can fix it-hopefully.
Did you look at ---view tech details--- in Reliability History,if so,were there any entries in lines 1 & 2 ?

Hello I was busy but finally got around to using DDU and installing my drivers again. My PC still experienced the same crash just like it did before this so that has not fixed it.

There was nothing in the tech details in reliability history, my screenshot has it in it. But here is a new screenshot from today. All it says is that it was an unexpected shutdown.

The crash was the same, I could still play my game for a little bit while remaining connected online, my friend could still talk to me but I couldn't talk back. Game volume had gone. Lights on keyboard/tower froze. Only way to turn off PC is to hard power down as when I try to shut down it just doesn't really do anything.

    1.) Too hot.
    Mess with fan speeds.
2.) Ram read - write problems.
Try other game if you don't or can't do that. If you did messed with Ram settings don't set them to full boost.
3.) Lag spike and then crash.
I have come across this mess with the settings i suggest up.

    If non works:
Give a delay to read - write of +1 and turn CPU mode to async with manual fan boost.
Async mode wont crash the cpu because it is not handling the hardware as one.
Explain: A GPU lag spike wont affect other things but will be noticeable.
I don't suggest you stick with it tho and it may not solve it.

Definitely not too hot, I manually increased my fan speeds when I first set my system up. The crash can happen when just browsing the web so nothing to do with game or RAM boost.

I had the same issue. So i can confirm this report is correct.
    Crashes for me:
1.) heavy loading/processing that lag the inputs.. with another heavy loading after it may re create this. blackscreen with led indicators flashing or full shutdown.
2.) hardware failure at startup usually IOMMU that failled to be managed correctly that can result in crash, blackscreen with led indicators flashing.
I can only tell you to tweak your settings, messing with settings fixed it for me.
Freeze on browsing and maybe some sounds that come directly from the mouse algorithm for me (the way that mouse speak with cpu - old school telephone like signals) and also other sound playing.

You tried to run a memtest ? You surely need to run a memtest.
The only way to know if your memory timing is one of the faults is by checking it.
The fastest way doing it is by using AIDA software and do a benchmark.
If it does not crash on all the benchmarks everything is mostly fine on ram.
I also suggest using the memtest of Ryzen Calculator.
You should let the memtest run for at least 20 minutes.
Most good configured rams have a drop every 15 minutes. That could be your problem cause it may drop an error at some loading creating bottleneck that later crash the system (that was my problem too, i rarely have crashing problems now and if i do is because windows don't manage correctly the hardware either on heavy loading or if a problem started when i booted the system, usually for me it is IOMMU faults, so it is related to Memory Integrity and virtualization).
By tweaking with memory you can surely fix this.

For me that worked and i surely suggest this memtest first step.

Now i have to say if you have problems with games and the reports of crash is No Access.
Disable Memory Integrity from Security Center.
On the Exploit Protection module select the program and disable the DEP for it. ( Do this only for games that may fail as you play )
If that does not fix your game crash it is a memory/loading problem.
Some games have memory problems that make them crash on their own.
That can be fixed by turning the cpu from synchronous mode to async mode (this will fix the heavy loading because it is not lagging the whole system while also trying to load more data) with the settings i suggested up here but its a temp fix for just this games don't use it like this for everything else, it will not fix the crash it's a memory workaround only that i worked with and fixed my problems for some time.
