    Spec Comparison

    Hi,

My daughter has been offered an old computer from an in-law. He's given her the basic specs, but I don't know how they compare with her current one. Can anyone advise me?

    Current one:
    Processor: AMD FX 6350 3.9GHz
    RAM: 8GB (Unknown spec)
    Display: AMD Radion R7200 Series
    Storage: 1TB HDD (Unknown model)

    Offered one:
Processor: AMD FX 8350 (Unknown speed)
    RAM: 16GB (Unknown spec)
    Display: GTX 960 4GB
    Storage: 1TB SSD (unknown model)

There are some relatively obvious improvements (all unknowns being equal), but the processor and graphics are above me.

    Matt

The offered one is a tad better.

CPU is 8 core (4.0Ghz) vs. her 6 core (3.9Ghz).
And the GTX 960 beats the R7 200. The GTX 960 is equivalent to the R9 380

Yeah, and the SSD is way better... but I figure you already knew that.

    the 6350; 6 cores, introduced in 2013; passmark score 4457; single thread score 1548; 125 watts TDP; recent price 148;

the 8350; 8 cores; introduced late 2012; passmark score 5943; single thread score 1573; 125 watts TDP; recent price 244

I know nothing about the video cards.

The most noticeable advantage is likely the SSD on the 8350

She may not notice the differences in the processors, depending on work load.

The RAM difference is unlikely to be noticeable for most users.

Nothing is known about the condition of either; that may be a factor?
