    Win 10 Search

I have removed Edge as I don't like it and don't use it. I have removed Cortana as I prefer the classic search. But, when I do a search eg: chester zoo, I get a white screen with print top left stating Microsoft Edge and it reverts to desktop. And when something does come up its says something about Bing - which I also do not use, prefering google. Windows also told me a few minutes ago that Edge WILL be reinstalled next update.

Listen to me Miserysoft. I do what I want, not what you try and tell me. If I dont want Edge or Bing, I damn well wont have it. Right, rant over - next:

Q: There must be a way to make sure windows search does not try to open Edge or bing, so gents - were is it? Has brink got a 'how to' on this?

    Hello mate,

You could see if turning off search online and include web results from Bing may do the trick.

Turn On or Off Search online and include web results in Windows 10

See, I knew you would have the answer. But cannot find that screen. I'll try the download button.

Thanks. I have it set to search the pc which is ideal. If I want to search web - google.

As I think you know - 'we' are not Miserysoft, thought I grant you that's creative.

    a. Don't bother hacking Cortana- no need. Just ignore and it'll hide using no resources. The role of Cortana changed through 2004/20H2 anyway. Make sure 'Hey Cortana' if available in Settings is off.

    b. Edge Deflector (free) was still found to work recently with Edge Chromium. I.e. no Edge from the search box on the taskbar by default.

Better still - use the Open Shell start menu (free) - which has a fully configurable search box.

lambert, everything on the OS arena should be optional. MS seems to be above the law. I get the impression, rightly or wrongly, that they are becoming as bad as that hitlerite org Facebook. But not as bad, yet. There is so much fake news, or true, floating around the net about Gates and his involvement with China and bugs, pardon the pun. Facebook is so dictatorial now that they banned me for 3 days, without apology, for using the word crap meaning a load of rubbish. Yet they freely allow every swear word under the sun. I digress.

MS forcing products on consumers is wrong. Windows must have noticed I had removed edge because they told me in no uncertain terms it WILL be going back in on the next update. I just wish I could remember where I saw it. If I do, I'll copy it into here. MY sis is still using win 8.1, she does not want to change but, MS is forcing her to potentially purchase a product she does not want.
