Battery Decreasing - Even when plugged in!

    Hello,

I am using Win 10 Pro and facing an issue with the battery. It is lowering down even when I connect my charger. What can I do?

P.S - Using the original Lenovo charger, the battery is also new but not of Lenovo.

    Edit-

I removed the charging wire and then re-inserted it again, the battery was going up. But would like to know what is the issue behind this problem? This can occur again too.

Your Lenovo charger has three connections in the plug. The third is a data line that is used to identify the capabilities and power output of the charger. If the third wire doesn't make good contact, then the laptop may not be able to identify the charger. With an unidentified charger, then the power may be allowed to run the laptop but as a precaution against overloading the charger the battery will not charge.

The third conductor is typically a 1 Wire type data connection, and is used to signal what type of charger is being used....

...Dell and Lenovo use these extensively.

I have Dell laptops that use the same type of third wire. Occasionally when I plug in the charger they may report that the charger couldn't be identified. Remove it and plug it in again and all is well.

Some laptops, to extend battery life can be set to stop charging at 50 or 80%.
If yours has reached this set point it stops charging. If you remove the charge, it works on the battery and when you insert the charger it charges till the set point.

Oh, I got your point. So can this be the reason behind my laptop shutting down (sometimes) when I plug in the charger? It turns off immediately, gives no error or warning.

You are talking about 50-80%, I have seen battery stuck at 20% too mate. This is not the issue here, I guess.

On my old Medion P6678 laptop I can set it to stop charging at anything between 60% and 80% in 1% increments, but also I can set it to start charging at anything between 10% and 30% in 1% increments. The little program that it uses has a systray icon that lets me launch its GUI, and is called Generic Power Management (GPMTray.exe). It is part of the Pegatron Hotkey (PHotkey) based software package that Medion offers for most of its various laptop models, and that enables the Fn key actions for the specific model. Medion is Lenovo's daughter brand so, you can expect many Lenovo laptops also come with a similar feature. The thing with Lithium-ion chargeable cells that can be charged to a maximum of 4.2 volts is that, although fully charging them gives the longest run time of course, it causes significantly faster aging of the cells when compared to charging them to a bit lower voltage if done frequently. The same also holds true if they are frequently discharged to a low voltage like below 3.0 volts, albeit this depends on the amp draw (i.e., discharging them to something like 2.8 volts won't hurt them much if, once the cell starts running a bit low, the amp draw is very far below the Continuous Discharge Rating (CDR) of the cell). Discharging a battery all the way down to 0% means that the Battery Management System (BMS) cuts off the discharge as it protects the individual cells inside the battery pack against overcharging, overdischarging, overheating, short circuiting, charging too rapidly, discharging too rapidly. Any Lithium-ion chargeable 18650 round cell that is rated for 4.2 volts can internally short circuit without prior warning signs and permanently (!) become a fire hazard after it is discharged below its minimum voltage rating (usually 2.5 volts). But this doesn't also mean that frequently discharging the pack till one of the cells reaches all the way down to the safety cut-off voltage that the BMS reports as 0% won't accelerate battery aging resulting from heavier stressing the cells. It will.
