sorry to hear your hassle keith, it just happened to me posting a reply with 7 pics :-((
breaking the link to OneDrive freed up placing and allocating, I will most likely just put certain
folders back in OneDrive that have access and backup needs.
I stumbled into an Asus cloud backup, 1tb for $16.00/yr that keeps track of everything and has
multiplatform access that works for me, not sure how good OneDrive is at this point

the different save dialogs are kinda all over the place but I'm satisfied with just having Documents on top of
the navigation to avoid at least 1 scroll down, I guess I'm pretty lazy.
and now also noticing more and more that either the apps or file explorer is remembering the folder
expansions, with luck they are closer to where you need to navigate to, see textpad example below with documents
already expanded in the right pane

thanks for all the ongoing replies

That's what I have & prefer: Default User's folders are still local-only -- OneDrive is a selected location for remote access or sharing. So many seem to miss that simple comprimise.

Good eye for detail. While the Open/Save dialog locations may seem haphazard at first, they get better over time. But because most applicaitons that use thews common dialogs deal with specific fily types, multiple MRU (Most Recently Used) location lists are saved -- one for each file type. So not just Notepad, but any app that launches the dialog with a .txt filter, will default to the same location.
