is it safe to delete pagefile.sys & hiberfil.sys

Don't know about Windows 10, however, I remember one can set pagefile.sys limits somewhere within Windows settings. As others have posted, I too found it, best to let Windows manage pagefile.sys.

I used to let Windows manage the page file but I found MS Flight Simulator 2000 kept crashing with 16 GB RAM. The problem was solved by manually increasing the page file size so the automatic setting is not always best.

SteveC, what was the default size, to what did you increase it to? This could benefit others in a similar boat.

Windows was using about 1GB by default. I increased it to 16GB and the crashes stopped. I've since increased the RAM to 32GB and reverted to the Windows auto setting for the paging file.

My experience over a number of years was to leave Virtual Memory/Swap file/Paging file enabled, some programs would look for it during installation. Same for some programs needing a Temp/Tmp folder on the drive. I don't use Sleep or Hibernation on Desktops, usually too many issues with them.
