Frustrating when convoluted, expensive software doesn't work and simple free stuff does!

I don't quite understand your point.
Are you suggesting an alternative solution? Or just making a general point about software in general?

    Try this...
How do I turn on previewer in Outlook?
    Microsoft Outlook

    Open the Microsoft Outlook program.
Click the View menu or tab at the top of the program window.
Click the Reading pane or Preview pane option.
Select the Right or Bottom option, depending on where you want the Preview pane displayed.

Sorry no. Not even close. The error message I am getting say "This file cannot be previews because there is no previewer installed for it"

So we need to INSTALL something!

I can't get previews on Outlook either!

I use Mailbird and Sumatra, as per previous screenshots.

    Does this help?
Outlook doesn't include a built-in PDF previewer. In order to preview PDF files, use the following steps.
    1. Close Outlook.
    2. Make Adobe Acrobat Reader the default program used to open PDF files.
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...a-bc95107f66be

And before you say it doesn't work know that Adobe is not M$ owned firm, and if that means you need to get Adobe Reader Pro to make previews then that's why it doesn't work by default.

    Hi there
FF will also read pdf files and I also think EDGE will do it too - so if you have a pdf attachment in Outlook just clicking on it should automatically open EDGE or FF depending on your default program- so if you use EDGE you don't need to install anything extra.

Here in Outlook 2019 is what I'm using here : You can see that the little FF icon in the outlook email attachment 1.pdf in the email shows that FF is my default pdf reader -- you shouuld be able to set any particular program that handles pdf's as your default. Go to settings in windows and choose default programs / applications.

How can I get .PDF files to preview in Windows Explorer & Outlook?-screenshot_20210324_224618.png

Same process if you double click a pdf file in Windows explorer -- check the default programs and apps.

So I'm not quite understanding the point you are trying to make.

    Cheers

Don't wanna open it in a program..., we want a Quick Preview within the client...
