If I recall correctly, the default number is 4.
If not, the experts will correct me.

Thanks's zbook. I've been tied up with trying to fix my pickup truck I bounced into a culvert during last month's snowstorm. I am wondering if there is some kind of program I can use to manipulate that boot sector on the partition that will not boot.
I was looking at Bootice, but I don't want to pull the trigger on something I don't know anything about.
My situation is such that I can't even install a fresh windows10 on the partition since it won't boot normally without the blue screen telling me to select another partition and a Win10 install has to reboot several times.
Do you think I could use partition magic or some utility to merge that partition without taking down the entire drive?

Can you boot the PC from a Windows USB device? If so, you can clean install Windows 10.

DiskPart is a Windows built-in utility. You can delete all OS partitions without touching the data partition. I did so before clean installing Windows 10.

Yes, I can boot from a Windows USB device and have tried installing Win10 Pro that way. But when the computer starts it's multiple reboots at some point it fails.

Did you delete the OS partitions? If so, which ones below did you delete?

    Partition 4 Recovery 538 MB 393 GB
    Partition 5 Primary 390 GB 393 GB
    Partition 6 Recovery 1024 MB 930 GB
Assuming partition 5 is a data partition, you can delete all others, which will become a single unallocated space as shown below:

Select the unallocated space and click on Next

The data partition should not be the cause of the following:

Thanks, Matthew, this looks like an important 1st step if I decide that the partition I created to migrate my date from my working partition cannot be salvaged. Can I just do this from the boot USB? I have the free version of Mini Tool Partition Wizard also and Macrium Reflect.

You don't need a third-party tool to delete partitions. Just boot the PC from the Windows USB device.
When you see the following screen, delete all OS partitions. Note that all data on the partitions will be deleted too.

Matthew, would you take a look at my partitions and tell me what I need to delete to leave just the C: drive, which I am currently using? I want to recover the full capacity of the disk and repartition it and start over with a new installation of Windows10 Pro on the new partition. I assume I can do all this in disk management.
