    Windows 10 Pro boot/power off/restart really slow

    Hello everyone,

it has been months my laptop started to be really.... really slow, every time I sign off, restart or switch on. It takes like twenty minutes to switch off, and even more to restart. When I switch it on, booting takes about twenty minutes (rough, I didn't time it) and then once I signed in Windows, it takes something like an hour on the Windows "Welcome" page and even desktop loading is slow. Once it has done, everything else is fine.

    My laptop is: ASUS X556U
    CPU: Intel core i7-6500U 2.50GHz 2.59GHz
    RAM: 8GB
    OS: Windows10 pro 2004 version x64

This is what I've already tried so far, but unsuccessfully:
    - Windows updates checks (everything updated)
    - Fast boot disabled
    - Hard Drive scanning (no problems found)
    - chkdsk and sfc/ scannow (scannow found some problems and fixed them)
    - start apps turned off

Hi, please run Hard Disk Sentinel (SSDs too) (trial) -portable version available- gives the best instant appraisal right on its GUI I know of, including assessment of data communication.

Your specs have excluded your drive. HDD? SDD? etc..

Please assess your disk data transfer rate by capturing a screenshot like this whilst copying a large file from C to C:

Please also run Crystal Diskmark (free) to assess performance. A few examples here for comparison:
HDD vs SSD SATA vs M2 NVMe - CrystalDiskMark results summary | Dave Mateer’s Blog

How much free space do you have on C: ?

Have you ever adjusted the paging parameters?

When performance was ok, were you running a different Win 10 build?

Have you used any driver updater tools?

Laptop seems to be from around 2016- is that correct?

    Thanks.

Run V2 > upload results directly into this thread.

For share links please use one drive, drop box, or google drive.

Download and install: Windows Performance Recorder (WPR)

    Hello.

    - My HDD is ST1000LM048-2E7172.
    - I weren't running a different Win 10 build as far I know. And didn't use any driver updater tool for sure.
    - My laptop is from 2017.
    - I've never adjust paging parameters.
    - I was always thinking that I didn't try to delete Windows/Temp and AppData/Temp files

These are screenshots you asked for. Thanks!

Ok, thanks, please also perform the transfer rate check.

How much free space do you have on C: ?

    That's a Seagate Barracuda 1Tb disk.

Having established some basics, zbook's post on using MS's Performance Recorder (technical, provides graphical representation of e.g. the boot process and how time is used during that).

Perhaps only 1 or 2 members here are particularly conversant with it.

    free space: 490GB on 826GB

This is the trasnsfer rate check screenshot:

I also did another crystal hard disk check at maximum test size:

    Windows 10 Pro boot/power off/restart really slow-crystal_disk_check_max.png

So do you think it is due to my hard-drive? I supposed that the problem was due to some OS update or register file corrupted. I also did disk check and defrag some weeks ago and both went fine.

It looks as if the slowness is attributable to a reduced disk transfer rate. Compare
    Windows 10 Pro boot/power off/restart really slow-untitled.png

-where I'm copying a large file back to the same disk. However, note mine is solidly 100%, whereas yours is extremely spikey. Without the screenshot of the file copy progress on the left, it's not clear what's happening.

    Also compare the speed.

There are several threads on this topic which you can research: the performance analyser record as per zbook's post may help to identify this further.

    That gives you two avenues.

Here's one example thread (solved) where you can see the performance analyser in use:
    Disk usage 100% please help

Towards the end, in this case the user had to enable superfetch as you can see.

Your situation may be different. You can find other such threads by searching for
    low transfer rate
    100% disk usage

Hi zBook, I have almost done what you asked for. It is taking ages because WPR is rebooting my laptop several times (twice already) and as you know it takes really long time. Now is processing the second reboot information, I hope it is last one. I am going to post the files here as it's completed. Thanks.
