I'm 99.999% sure it will be an upgrade ....... A clean install would make me and many others
Why is that? A "full install" in this case is an in-place upgrade and it works well. It is not as bad as it was in the XP and early days. Almost all annual Windows 10 updates are "full installs" - like 1803 to 1903 etc...

I believe you're looking for the quick, one-minute patch method. That is highly unlikely now, as that is only available for enablemenet packages. I don't think this would be turned into an enablement package as those contain minor changes and already dormant features. Most of the design changes is absent, not dormant, in the latest 20H2 release so unlikely.

They could speed up updating if they did not resort to essentially duplicating the system before commencing the changes , but I believe this is for safety reasons.

Just get an NVMe SSD and it won't be that painful

They do but individual sales of OS is just a very minor part of revenue. Most goes to OEM and corporate sales. B.Gates let the cat out of bag long time ago. When asked if he was concerned with Windows piracy, he said no, it's more important that everybody is running windows and they will make money on everything else.
Yes that's what I also thought. But there is also marketing here. You know, it tastes better with a new name, signifying that this is better and a new product, even though it does not seem that different to me, except UI changes. Then again they could make more changes.
If, however the leaked beta is going to be the same, or similar to what they announce without major changes under the hood then I don't really understand why this one needs a new name. Not for profit and not even for marketing reasons. We shall see..

I suspect the new name is so consumers know it's new and it's also a shift to the tablet/touch market. Marketing is about new names to indicate something is better and improved.

Think of the millions and millions of users out there with Windows 10 of some flavor.... Home, Pro, whatever. Now think of the reaction of those millions if told "Hi! Welcome to the New Windows 11! Press ENTER to continue and completely wipe out all your stuff and start all over! Enjoy!"

Not gonna happen. A forced clean install is just not going to happen.

    Cheers!

That's what I mean - I think it will be like other Windows 10 major version upgrades where you keep all files and apps.

Well whaddaya know? In a newsletter that I receive via my E-mail, Microsoft has stated a DCMA against the site beebom to remove the link to the Windows 11 ISO

Microsoft Japan has filed a DMCA request to take an article from Beebom offline after a build version of Windows 11 appeared online earlier this week. In the DMCA request, Microsoft confirms the upcoming Windows 11 for the first time.

On Friday, Fossbytes discovered that Microsoft Japan has filed a DMCA request. In the request, Microsoft writes that a Windows 11 ISO file is being distributed via Beebom's page and that it is copyrighted by Microsoft. The message states that it is an 'unreleased version of Windows 11'. That's the first time Microsoft has responded to the leak and confirmed Windows 11.

Microsoft has already announced a Windows event, where a new version of Windows could be announced. This week, the leaked build version revealed that it concerns Windows 11.

In the meantime, the leaked ISO file has already made a lot of knowledge about the new operating system from Microsoft and we have been able to view this version in detail. That's not to say that the leaked build version of Windows 11 is also the version we'll eventually see at release, but it does give an idea of where Microsoft wants to go with Windows.

The Windows event where Windows 11 is likely to be officially announced is Thursday, June 24, starting at 5:00 PM Dutch time.

Perhaps the great revelation will be that "Windows 11" is just an in-house name and we'll learn the name it will be known as. After all, they might wish to avoid a Windows 13 in some years' time...
