Not too much to ask. The leaked version was an upgrade over W10 and Microsoft know people would be - it would be very impractical to go to W11 for many if it wasn't able to be done as an upgrade.

Yes Steve and I guess it would have quite an impact on companies (and government agencies / depts) currently using 10 as their OS system eh? To reinstall for those people would truly be at an enormous cost.

Maybe not so much. My last employer's IT department used a standardized, scripted installation. They might be perfectly happy to blow away an old Windows 10 setup and replace it.

    About 2-3 years from now.

Yes well Bobkn that isall very well for them as they have their own IT staff to deal with it I am more concerned about the change as an individual as I suspect many more are. But I do see what you mean.

    If it's just GUI whitewash
    a. It's probably not going to look better than Vista did (opinion!)
    b. It could cause upgrade issues for themers or users of e.g. some Stardock software
    c. It will ignore basic architectural weaknesses and the inability to handle very high resolution multiple monitors competently
    d. despite MS's fumbling and disappointingly feeble efforts to 'improve' on Windows search, they really still miss the mark with what could and should be a useful tool.

And I wonder how those who want/prefer/need to stay with Win 10 may do so easily- intrinsically- without 3rd party tools.

Now I am still concerned about what is going to happen when 11 comes along I am not that savvy and I see all the talk about widgets and icons etc etc but what I want to know is that how is Windows 11 going to be rolled out.
Is it going to be a fully paid version or just an upgrade download from Microsoft and will I have to get my hard drives swapped out and how do I transfer some of my data (not much ) from the old 10 installation to the 11 version.
I am only asking because it has become so confusing as to what is going to happen.
Unless we got tricked. this is hardly new Windows and so certainly nothing to charge money for.

They do but individual sales of OS is just a very minor part of revenue. Most goes to OEM and corporate sales. B.Gates let the cat out of bag long time ago. When asked if he was concerned with Windows piracy, he said no, it's more important that everybody is running windows and they will make money on everything else.
