Here it is "expecting" Windows 11 to be a free upgrade to existing Windows 10 users. Technically there's a fee if you want a local account though - apparently you can only have a local account on W11 Pro. So paying for a pro upgrade if you don't have pro already and want a local account.

I would expect it would be an upgrade like any previous copy of Windows. Should be able to use your existing key as proof of ownership to get the free upgrade. I haven't read much about 11. I'm just waiting to hear from Microsoft what they say. Considering we have 4 more years of support and I'm doing well on Windows 10, I'm in no hurry whatsoever to make any changes.
I hope so too pparks I am just worried that as I bought my main laptop from a dealer and Windows was previously installed by them- that Showkey will give the activation key as I had problems using that before on another computer and MS would not verify the key that Showkey was showing me.

A laptop is going to be prebuilt by the manufacturer and the copy of Windows that it installed on that type of machine is OEM. So, the license for Windows is only allowed to be used on that exact computer, it cannot be moved on another machine.
I would 100% expect that you can upgrade this Windows 10 to Windows 11, and it will get registered on the activation servers. Once they know your box, you will be able to clean install Windows 11 again.

There is no Windows 11 yet, only a leaked internal testing version, often clogged with malware. I don't recommend using it. The announcement is only a few days away...
Someone finally figured it out on YT that this so-called Win11 build is FAKE! And I agree with this!
