I’m still trying to work out what I think about the wallpaper. It’s eye catching but I keep looking at it thinking - what is it. One minute it’s a grotesque and alien like blue amoeba, the next minute it’s - artistic but do I want to look at that. Then I think - weird.
If the past WIndows versions may be considered base of any expectations...
There should be a period of active support AND extended maintenance support even after the new OS is released. And it is not at all guaranteed that they will release the final version at the 24th. It might as well just be a beta.
But anyhow, at this point it is not clear to me which one of these support categories that 2024 date is.
I believe we would continue to get feature updates until a date between today and that 2024 date. Like one to two years. At least one more large feature update is due, since we were insider dev-testing 21xxx builds, while the public release is 19xxx. This is slated to 2021 Fall, or even Winter I believe, according to the previous schedule.
Beyond this, highly unlikely I guess. This is what happened with Vista, Win7 and even 8.1. The successor OS got released, the previous ones were fully supported with feature & performance improvement updates for about 2-3 more years AT MOST and then moved into extended support, which means security updates only.
So this boils down to, in my speculation:
Windows 10 Active support: until 2022 December
Windows 10 Extended support: until 2024
Windows 10 ESU paid support: beyond 2024
Well I am just a simple soul who is just wondering how the changeover will be handled - that is will I have to buy yet another version of Windows - will I have to swap out my hard drives and reinstall the new version and does this mean that I have to buy yet more copies of the security suite I use? as I use two main machines.
I am asking because I am like many others I guess on a reasonably limited pension income and am just concerned about what is going to happen.
I would like to thank all who have made comments on my thread and will mark as resolved though I still am just concenred on how the turnover will happen.
Any thoughtss on my post would be appreciated.
Hiyya Steve yes mate I am not against the system being changed more that it may mean resetting up ones' machines all over again and having to work out how the new system works
I suppose this also means that the system is bound to change every five years or so - something else I meant to mention.
Article I read said it would come as an update - free I think. Can't find the link now
Hiyya Hazel well if that is the case then it would be good even if one had to pay a small subscription for the changeover
Hi John,
I'm hoping Windows 11 will be a free upgrade, for home users anyway, and hope we will be able to upgrade over Window 10 without any loss of apps or file like in the past. We'll find out for sure next week on the 24th I hope.
