How to enforce "Details" view in Windows File Select Dialog?

Have you clicked on View>Details?It works for me.

Of course I have tried that, and it works, but I am tired of having to do it all the time. The file selector dialog comes up willy-nilly with icon or thumbnail views which don't display enough files, so I am looking for a way to make the file selector dialog *always* open in the *Details* view *by default*. Thanks for making me aware of my imprecisely phrased question. I will try to change the thread title.

Not sure if this will help, but something I've noticed is that 'Save as' in the context menu will open the folder under whatever the original default template format is for that folder when it was first created ( i.e. General items, Pictures, Documents, Video, Music, etc. ) regardless of any changes to 'columns' and 'views' I've made AFTER that folder was created.

However, if after these folder changes were made, I update the template by opening this same folder in File Explorer and select 'View > Options > Change folder and search Options > View > Folder views > [Apply to Folders], the new columns and views will then appear in the 'Save as' cause it's now following this updated template.



The one problem is any other separate custom folders you may have set under this template will ALSO get changed to this new configuration.

This sounds like it has to be done for each folder, in which case it is worse than fixing each view ad hoc, as @Eddie Doc suggested. My misery is pretty well summarized in this post. I don't like software that assumes that it knows what I want. ;-{ I plan to try out @KeithM's PowerShell script from this post to see if it helps. Thanks for your support!

Thanks for the tip about Keith's script. I am a bit reluctant to use the script from the tutorial you mentioned because I don't find anything in those registry keys about views (although I can't interpret the binary content of most values). It looks to me as though deleting those keys will wipe out the history of locations where I have saved things, which is not what I want.
