Fast Start Up black flickering screen issue

Hi, laptop has been running fine for ages. Then encountered black screen with flickering white lines on startup. Did a hold power button to reboot and works fine. Narrowed it down to fast startup. Disable it and now works fine. I’m fine using without but it’s nice to have the quick startup. Have tried to delete the Prefetch folder in windows to see if any corrupt data etc but didn’t fix. This seemed to have occurred after recent windows update. Any thoughts or ideas? Many thanks

Hello gfresher and welcome to TF ,

Yes, Windows fast startup cause problems for some PCs.

My suggestion is to sleep the PC as much as possible - then it wakes up fast. Just save your open files before sleeping the PC in case the power goes out to avoid file corruption.

Confirm your BIOS and drivers are up to date from the PC manufacturers website - that may help with the fast startup issue.

Look at this tutorial: Enable or Disable Hibernate in Windows 10

Especially this section: "Fast startup requires that hibernate be enabled. If you only want to use fast startup and don't plan on using hibernate, then you can specify the hiberfile type as reduced to significantly reduce the size of the hiberfile (C:\hiberfil.sys) to about half of its full size."

Do you use hibernation? I don't use it or fast startup.
