How the heck do I get it to "This PC"?

to repeat my post #25 in more detail....

Starting with File Explorer open as it looks for you now, click on the blue File tab at top left.

In the menu that will appear, click on 'Change folder and search options'.

In the Folder Options window that opens, click on the box next to 'Open File Explorer to:' that currently says 'Quick access'.

Select 'This PC' from the list, then click the OK button to close the window.

Now close File Explorer. From now on when you open File Explorer it will look like this.

I followed Bree's instructions as best I could. Now my "File Explorer" looks like this:

I have NOT tried to do anything with it yet, but at least I think I will be able to see my drives. I will let everyone know

That's great progress. Your File Explorer now shows your C: drive and you can start exploring it.

There are a couple of things you might like to turn on in your File Explorer to make it easier to navigate around your drives. The first and most useful is the Navigation Pane. This is like an index to you drive and sits on the left in Explorer. Yours is turned off at the moment. This tutorial shows you what it looks like and tells you how to turn it on.

Show or Hide Navigation Pane in File Explorer in Windows 10

The second is the Ribbon that sits at the top of Explorer and has icons in it for commonly used actions. Some like to see it, others don't. This tutorial tells you how to show it, if you like.

Hide or Show File Explorer Ribbon in Windows 10

The D: drive shown in your screenshot is the HP-RECOVERY drive. This is found on many HP machines and is there in case you need to do a factory reset. Best to leave that D: drive alone and just use the C: drive for all your files, as recommended by HP here....

Recovery (D): is a special partition on the hard drive used to restore the system in the event of problem. Recovery (D:) drive can be seen in Windows Explorer as a usable drive, you should not attempt to store files in it. Storing files on the Recovery (D:) drive can cause the system recovery process to fail.

Bree you are absolutely correct. There are many things that can be done to make this PC better. Here is an example:

I assume when any of the horizontal tabs are selected, the Ribbon opens.
One thing I don't think I have ever seen is "This PC". Although what is showing on this new PC is actually "This PC".
Your comment leaving the D-drive alone, I absolutely agree.

Since my says she does NOT want this PC, I am taking a few day off and just do NOTHING.

    Thanks for all the help.

Glad I could help. Enjoy your break, hopefully things will make more sense and feel more comfortable/familiar when you return.

See these 2 little icons in the lower right corner? the one on the left is for the details view. Maybe you know this already, but try it and see what it does for your needs.
