    Remove Registry Key

Hello all not sure where to put this one.

After a CU, maybe 2 back, CCleaner found this duplicate registry key and I can`t seem to delete it. I uninstalled the CU and the Registry key disappeared, but after installing the CU again, it reappeared.

I have never had an issue with CCleaner taking care of the Registry. But the only thing I could do with it was add it to the Exclude list, but I`d like to get rid of it.

If you must use registry cleaners, you could also try Wise Disk Cleaner

I had the same issue. So did a few others.

You have to go to Permissions > Advanced and change the Owner from Trusted Installer, to your user account.

There is no duplication shown anywhere in your post. Your Registry diagrams show two different keys - they differ in their final character [one ends in } and one does not].

Without any solid justification, I am very suspicious of the one that does not end in } because I have never seen an unmatched opening { in a Registry key.

I agree and, Like I said it appeared after a CU, would love to get rid of it.

Ghot is trying to help me, as he said, quite a few people had issues with it, I even showed it to Shawn and he told me he also had it.

If it wasn`t a issue I don`t think CCleaner would say it is.

And WTH is a Voice Toast Callback

Agree with @Try3. It takes only 1 character difference in computing to make a problem.

I have the same "duplication" in the Registry the Notebook I'm on now, latest Win10.

    @AddRAM

The one you want to get rid of is the one with "Voice Toast Callback" in it.

Might have to reboot to make it disappear from CCleaner

    /edit

I'm sorry I don't remember exactly how I did it. It was a while ago, I only ever did it once and I figured it out as I went.
But I know it works. And I know it was the CU that caused it. I used MR backups to check.

I posted about it in Brink's CU topic when it happened. I checked the CU for January and December and it wasn't there.
    I guess I'll check November.

Exactly Ghot, that`s the key that CCleaner brings up, I just can`t delete it.

But the key for the Voice Callback is the one without the } on the end.

I think it's the November one, BUT... MS overwrote the Novemeber CU cause the date or the KB number isn't on my list.
So I can't use the KB number to search TF for that thread.

Did you see where I said you might have to reboot to make the change take effect?

This is as much as I can remember. Maybe someone else can explain how to finish it...

Obviously this is a different key, cause I deleted the 0256.. key.

Right clicked the key on the left, and chose Permissions. Then clicked Advanced.
You can see TrustedInstaller was the owner. I clicked change which opened a new page.
I typed XP and clicked on Check Names. That changed me to the owner.

But I can't remember what I did at the bottom of the owner page about inheritance and child object permissions.

When you click "change" this is the page that opens... I typed my acct name in the big white box and clicked "check names". That changed ME to the owner.

    I can't remember after that.
I might have gone back one page (to the owner page), and at the bottom, clicked on something to do with...

    ...inheritance and child object permissions.

What I DO remember is that if you do it right... then you can delete the 0256... key on the left.

Yes, I`ll reboot and see if it makes a difference.

Yes, this was from a CU awhile back, November seems a bit too far back, but it certainly could have been that far back, as I just put it on the exclusion list out of frustration.
