    Taskbar Search not working.

Just lately, my taskbar search hasn't been working. I've tried to research the problem on my own, but so far I've had no luck with solving it. Part of the problem is that it's hard to find my specific problem. A lot of entries deal with issues that are similar but not identical. They talk about search menus that are solid black with nothing in them, or searches that begin but never find anything. That's not the problem I have.

Here's what happens. When I click the little magnifying glass on my taskbar, I get the spinning circle next to the mouse cursor for about a second, and then nothing happens. No search menu opens up. I don't even get the big empty popup menu that some people describe. Nothing comes up at all. The spinning circle tells me that the system is thinking about doing something, but it never actually does it.

Alternatively, if I change my settings so that I have a search box in the taskbar, I can't type in it. I can click the text box, but when I type, nothing goes in. The feature is just plain broken. It's annoying, too, because the taskbar search is incredibly handy.

This isn't something that a simple reboot will fix. I tried that. It didn't help. I also followed the directions to have the system re-index everything. No luck. No good. Can anyone suggest anything to fix this?

Your v1909 was released November 2019 so have you tried upgrading to the latest Windows 10 version 20H2 and then update that to latest build 19042.804?

Check if it's related to your user profile, or a general Windows issue.
This is an important distinction. If the former, then upgrading or an in-place upgrade repair install will not help.
    It's also simple to do:
    - create a new user for test purposes
    - log in as that user
Do you see the same problem?

If not, it's specific to your user profile.

Does file explorer search work normally?

Just lately, my taskbar search hasn't been working.
Do you have a suitable System Restore point you could use?

Tried all of it. No difference.

Worth note: I tried using the search while watching the Task Manager. When I click the magnifying glass, Cortana briefly appears, then disappears.

Across the top of the Search box are 4 titles plus more.

Are you choosing the correct title ?

Give us an example of a word you are typing in.

Funnily enough... it started working again. I'm not sure quite why. It doesn't make sense. But it works again. Did it have anything to do with uninstalling language packages I had recently installed? I don't know. But it works again.

Please take another look at my post. The problem I had was that the search box wasn't even appearing.

    Aw dam, my bad

If it still wouldn`t work I was going to suggest doing a Repair Install.

    Glad it`s working now.
