    Vanishing File Explorer Windows

I had a new PC built (I usually do it myself but there are no graphics cards to be had) and in the midst of fighting through the usual problems and errors I came across a strange one in that whilst doing some stuff in File Explorer, all my File Explorer windows disappeared. Nothing was shown in the event log. The PC is not networked and the only additional storage attached is an internal SSD and two external SSDs.

So far this has only happened once, although I've only been running the PC for a day, but like all these problems it's not going to go away by itself, so I wondered if anyone has any advice.

I did check the web but all I found were accounts of PCs with networked storage.

File explorer windows disappear if the disk-path they are pointed at disappear - just as if, for a removeable disk, you suddenly pulled it out.

I had this once when a disk's file allocation table became corrupted. It could only ever be read again when it was put in a USB-connected caddy and that was only partial & only temporary.

Perhaps your problem is also a disk problem.

Thanks. I considered that. Maybe I'll just have to connect to each SSD in turn and leave a window open in order to isolate which is causing the problem.
