    windows 10 and old systems

I am running windows 10 on an old core2duo hp desktop system and I gave the machine an SSD to boot from. but I also gave it a 4 TB harddrive.

The drive was from another system (I have many many systems) and was already formatted and windows 10 lists it as a 4 TB drive.

But the old bios lists it as a 2 TB drive when booting up. Should I be worried or does Windows 10 have it all under control?

    Should I be worried?

Hi, the MBR limitation may be applicable:
Two Ways to Break 2TB File System Limit

    How is the drive formatted?

I Think the win 10 machine that formattet it suggested GPT

So Im fairly sure that it is formattet as a single 4 TB GPT volume

Even with the BiOS limitation, just look under Disk Mgmt and see what Windows thinks (It should be happy.

The only issue should be that for BiOS purposes, you won't be able to use that drive for BOOTing unless it's formatted as an MBR drive.

    Thank you for your reply.

You can readily check using a 3rd party partition manager or commands
    diskpart
    list disk

Your bios is probably so old it doesn't understand GPT and is just reporting the maximum size available should the drive be formatted as MBR. This is for information only, the bios isn't imposing any limits. Once booted to Windows the OS knows how to handle GPT, there should be nothing to worry about.

    Thanks for the replies.

I had some extra time this morning and have just confirmed that my boot SSD is MBR and my 4 TB HDD is GPT
