Damn. I watched it and there didn't seem to be a problem. But I see Windows Update is saying 'we couldn't install this update but you can try again (0x8007042b)'. Rats...

Well now... I've just waited the best part of two hours while Windows 10 20H2 was downloaded and installed along with KB4601556 (cumulative reliability improvements in .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8). I did a search and the original problem is back despite me still being on 'enhanced'. I'll do a rebuild later (no time right now).

Side issue - if I've installed a 'new' OS (20H2), why does calling winver still result in me having 1909 OS Build 18363.1379? Should that not have changed?
Before you pursue updating to 20H2, do yourself a favor and make a full backup of your boot drive
Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect

    Dortmunder,

I was still adding links & comments to my earlier post #10 when you replied.

I've switched from Classic to Enhanced
In case it is significant, I did not understand this comment. I don't know what Classic or Enhanced are.

Classic/Enhanced were new to me, too. See post#2.

After you have made a full backup image with Macrium Reflect, unless you absolutely have to have 20H2, I recommend you update to 2004 instead using
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

You can get the 2004 ISO from TechBench by WZT (v4.1.1)

If 2004 works for you, and you're still tempted to have the shiniest new 20H2, then make a MR backup of 2004 and update to it. I personally don't use or recommend 20H2 right now.

MR backups are cheap insurance - you can restore back to your working image within 30 minutes usually.

    Why don't you like 20H2?
'Update to 2004'? Isn't that going backwards?

It has nothing I want and broke something I use - Task Manager - Startup information which you may not even be aware exists. I'm hard pressed to find a reason to upgrade to 20H2 until they fix what they broke.

So 2004 to 20H2 is an absolute downgrade in my experience. I prefer functionality over eye candy.
