Make a new system image to capture your current progress then restore the system image you made before you started - just for the purposes of rescuing her emails onto an external drive. You can then restore your latest system image when you've finished rescuing them.

It has a scheduled defrag once a week.
Also, I probably didn't state this beforehand but this laptop wasn't working properly when I got it and there really doesn't seem to be much I can do. She wanted it back a few days ago... nothing's changed and she doesn't seem to care.
Not sure if that means the issue is resolved, it just kind of ends here. Thanks to all.

Oh, she wants a working computer, only thing is she thinks its a case of pressing a few buttons and all's well. I told her about the SSD and win10 but she just isn't interested in taking those sort of steps. Pity really as it isn't a bad laptop.

You could make it an early present for her maybe (SSD only, not Windows 10 - W10 jump might be too much)?

You can download new installs of windows 7
HeiDoc.net: The Technology Treasure Chest, as long as you have the activation key, it will activate again.
So install new ssd, install new copy of windows 7, then upgrade it to win 10. If she does not like 10, then downgrade the os back to 7, I think you get like 10 days to decide that. (or whatever)
These SSD are really good and fast. You could get one for her and upgrade her system to 10. And keep the old drive as backup in case she says she wants it back like it was. My thinking she will just like the PC to work well (ssd will make it like a new pc) and 10 really is not the issue.
She also might be thinking either you will loose her files, or your going to too much trouble for her.
