    Can't add to Path variable


    Win10 Pro 20H2

    In the Sytem variables section of the System Properties dialogue I add a bona fide folder name, OK,
    then immediately it is as though I had done nothing. No denials, no objectons, just absent.

    Some references say a restart is necessary before edits to the path variable take effect -- see, for example, Add to the PATH on Windows 10 | Architect Ryan -- but others do not. If a restart doesn't help with this, please post back again and include a screencap of the environment variable's values.

    If you open a cmd prompt and type setDoes it show there and how long is the path

    I am focussed on the behavior of the GUI per se (later I will care about the variable's taking effect). In the variables window of another sameOS computer, the dialogue immediately updates itself to show edited Path, as we know that it should do.
    The length is fine, even shorter than in the past.

    Do you happen to know whether automatic restoration of Path var is a "feature" of any monitoring programs?
