How do folders or files loose their dates ? and WHY ? OMG WHY?

This is on windows 10. I like to use sync back free but as far as I know that would never do that.? Anyone know how or why or what to do to keep this invaluable information from just being left behind? How do we prevent this?
Please see my post below with pictures. In fact I will enter it here below:

Some programs allow a checkmark indicating to save server date and time, maybe there is a checkmark to save folders and files date and time -- I'm using Windows 7, I'm guessing here about Windows 10.

Need to give us a bit of help here ... you say where it doesn't happen (Syncback Free) but you don't tell use how/where/when it does happen.

    They don't.

If you can explain the problem you are experiencing then it can probably be addressed.

Under certain circumstances, I suddenly noticed the file dates have changed from their original dates over to the downloaded or copied/moved dates. I have no idea how to troubleshoot that change.

The Date is generated anytime a file is edited, changed, moved or copied.
This does not change the contents of the file. If data is being removed or changed without your input, then the file may reside or moved to an area of the HDD/SSD with Bad Sectors, making that file corrupted, or parts of it missing.

Are you referring to changes in the Date column within File explorer?
If you want, you can change that to Date modified [or another one of the available Date fields]
    - Right click on the column header [e.g. Name]
    - Scroll down to the section starting with the word Date
    - Set checkboxes for the particular Date field you want to add
    - Scroll back to the top and clear the checkboxes for any fields you do not want

So using SYNC back free - I want to copy my files and folder but I want them to retain their dates that they were originally Created. I appears this is greyed out because I need to buy the full version ?? That if I am to backup folders it wont retain original dates the folder has been created ?
Also it appears that according to spunk that windows changes the dates of the folders to a new date when its moved or copied so I would think if I used DOS to copy my files it would have an option to retain the original folder creation date.
So maybe I might use macrium to clone my disk to external USB drive "x" then then restore that disk to a external backup to drive "Y" and I don't think if I did it that way the date that folders and files would be created would go away. It seams windows does this at random because I know most of the time when I copy a folder filled with other folders it does retain the dates the files were originally created. I still can not imagine why the original file creation date would not be incredibly valuable information we would want to keep when we copy files. Any time I copy files or folders I want to retain the original creation dates. Who wouldn't ! ? maybe I'm missing a concept here I always need to know the date and time of the last file I edited.

So here sync back free made this backup and it did retain the file dates that were in existence when it copied them. These folders have lost their original creation time in some other fashion other than sync back free.
You can see that what z was saying is true sometimes windows removes original creation time. OR >??

So I should have included this information in my original post. How do I find out when these folders were originally created. Certainly that information would be retained in some way and there must be a way to expose that information.

"Must be a way …" - Yes, and you've done it.
"Maybe that means …" - Yes, it does.

I use RoboCopy for all folder copying to avoid the problem you have found. RoboCopy can preserve created dates.

Normally when I copy or move files and folders I right click drag on the files or folders I have selected then drag to a different explorer window and then let go - it give me the option then to move or copy the files.

Maybe there is a way to always keep the Original creation dates while doing it this way. Most of the time it does it must be random thing. ? Is there a registry setting that controls behavior while copying files? Other 3 party applications ? So why would windows keep the original file creation date one time but not the next ?

Macrium has this way of cloning folders. its a round about process but it would assure it. But still not just me but everyone needs a solution to this. Robocopy well - that's going to be pretty time consuming especially when trying to get a lot of files and folders organized.
