    Don,

If you copy a file then the copy gets a new creation date.
If you move a file then the moved original retains its original creation date.

There is no setting anywhere to alter this behaviour.

    7zip ?

So maybe a solution might be to use the 7zip utility when I want to keep file and folder dates. ? Bringing files back and forth between the office and home.

    Don,

You'd have to experiment to find out if that achieves what you want.

I use WinZip and that preserves file creation & modified dates when files are extracted.
    - Folder created & modified dates are not preserved.

RoboCopy preserves both folder & file creation & modified dates.

This did retain the last time the folder was modified. but it did show the creation date as different. Windows winzip creation did the same thing when I extracted this folder after I zipped it with windows when I did the send to: windows zip folder and then unzipped it.

Lately I have been putting the date with the file name.

FYI: when you send a file to someone who has a ipad via gmail or outlook IPAD will not retain the file name.

Realizations and Misidentification of my actual problem

Now that I have analyzed everything more, here is what I am still confused about: I knew that windows would retain the valuable information as shown in the top windows Copy. What I am actually posting about is how did what happened below happen ? ( The bottom part of the graphic below )

How do folders or files loose their dates ? and WHY ? OMG WHY?-thefacts.jpg
Here in some fashion windows has my date created different. and My date modified are all the same. That is not supposed to happen. This is what I can not figure out.
Somehow in our clients folders the date modified all changed the same yet date created is different. I am overlooking something but I do not know what yet.

    Don,

File copies retain their date modified but folder copies do not.

    That's why I use RoboCopy.
