    Huh? Is that a bot?

    I don't know what Agent Ransack is but if it's a program for windows then it uses the windows API as its underlying function to traverse the hard disk anyway.

    After doing a memory dump for SearchApp.exe, I found a non-unicode string referencing one of the ghost files in the data.

    Are there any windows developers here who could look in the source code to see where SearchApp.exe fetches information from when aggregating the search item list?
    Nope, we don't have access to M$ source code - do you?

    I wouldn't be asking if I did, I'd just look at the code. There's a lot of it leaked around the internet but not for SearchApp.

    Here is the source of the problem: %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.Search_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState

    Edit or delete files such as "appssynonyms.txt", "appsglobals.txt" and "appsconversions.txt" to fix the problem of old fake app entries in the search results.

    @2allmyhaters,
    Thanks for sharing your solution. How did you figure out this issue?

    I didn't know there's M$ leaked code out there.

    I don't see any such files in my %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.Search_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState
