I want Windows 10 to shut down after a certain period of time

    Hi
I want Windows 10 to shut down after a certain period of time instead of sleep mode. For example, if I don't use my computer for say 20 minutes I want my computer to shut down rather than going to sleep mode or hibernate but I can't find such a choice. What can I do? I use windows 10 pro on my SSD drive so I don't want hibernate mode and sleep mode isn't enough.
    Thanks.

My pc configuration : Q9300 processor, Gigabyte P43 Es3g mainboard, 8 gb of DDR 2 ram, Crucial MX500 250 gb SSD drive and HDD drives.

Hi, whilst you can configure Windows manually and schedule a shut down task, this tiny free program gives you all the options you need to configure things as you wish- including blocking sleep and timed shutdown. Ok, it's called 'Don't sleep' but it does more.

    Download Don't Sleep 7.89

I'm sure you'll be offered other options too. Feel free to choose- or search for yourself of course.

Just a note: some people asking such questions then say 'Oh, but I don't want to use a 3rd party solution'. If that's what you wanted, you needed to have specified your question appropriately.

Thank you very much. I am going to give it a try very soon. I am not one who refuses third party solutions.

One caution I'll mention is to use any program's settings, such as in Microsoft Office, to do automatic saves periodically and before the time of the shutdown so as not to lose any unfinished/unsaved data. With most programs that I use to create documents I will first Name and Save [without closing] a new file. The name can be anything that the user recognizes such as Draft 1.doc, Spreadsheet 98.xls, etc.

Thanks. I've never realized the issue you point to.

    Hello @zxvadsf,

I did actually write a Batch Script to do this which is what I use. The link is in my signature and goto Put The Computer To Sleep.

    I hope this helps.

I don't see anything in that software does that Windows's Power Options (under Control Panel) can't do....

I want Windows 10 to shut down after a certain period of time-power-options.jpg

And you don't have to worry about another third party software doing whatever unknown things its doing.

Anyway - Change Power Plan Settings in Windows 10
