    I need Autorun.dll on system32

First of all I am having some trouble with my pc again. I keep getting errors and it says my computer needs to restart. One is system service exception and another is kmode exception not handled. I want to re-install Windows and start over , but I want to use my usb stick of windows 10. Thing is it doesn't want to work. Not long ago I just used Reset This PC. It seemed to have done the job, except now the troubles are back with more errors periodically.

The main problem I am having is that I don't have Autorun.dll period. It is not in System32 where the other dll's are. It is also not to be found in my Registry. I have done research on Autorun.dll and there is really no place online to get it. Not from what I found. I have run the System File Checker to no avail. Nothing found wrong. I have also run the three DISM's if you know what I mean. All is clean on my system. System File Checker didn't get me Autorun.dll so what next?

You see, I just have a feeling if I had the file I could use my usb stick of Windows 10. I have used it before without any trouble. It could be all I need to re-install Windows. I guess that's about it for now. Thanks for any help with this.

I just checked the Notebook I'm using that came with Win10 Pro and it does not have the autorun.dll in either System32 or SysWOW64, can plug in USB thumb drives and portable HDDs without issue. Both subfolders do have an autoplay.dll file.

Hi Berton.Yes my System32 does have autoplay.dll. Just for the heck of it, can you check your Registry for autorun.dll. From what I gather, autorun.dll is part of Windows OS. Could it be hidden? To me it seems strange that your laptop doesn't have it either. Thanks.

    Checking now.

UPDATE: file not referenced in the Registry but a Search of the SSD shows 2 items in the folders under C:\Windows\servicing\LCU.

Have you run sfc /scannow to check for system integrity?

swarfega, it was in my first post. Yes I ran sfc /scannow, but there were no problems to be found.

I don't really understand that Berton. To me the file should have been found in the registry. Strange and interesting. Even when doing all the online searching it would seem that I could download the file to System32. Of course the websites can be misleading and full of nasties. Like I said earlier, I was warned by Avast and Malwarebytes when trying to download the file so I called it quits. Thanks Berton.

Just because a file exists on the drive doesn't mean it's usable by Windows and until installed may not even show in the Registry which is made up of 5 Hives or text files that Windows uses to know what to run and how to run it.

The folder I showed has 3 folders showing the last 3 Build updates I did, the third or latest has 2 copies of that file, should be able to drill on down on yours to find autorun.dll, copy and paste in either or both of System32 and SysWOW64. Reboot and see what works.

I download files as I need them from "DLL-Files.com" I've never had issues with any of the file I've gotten from there. If you download the file make sure it the correct Architecture, 64 Or 32.

Here's a pic of the Details
