I have been doing just that.....One drive is hooked up at a time. This way, I don't accidently delete something I need from the other drive. ...... and I keep track of what I am doing better.
Every time I get things going in the right direction, the PC freezes up on me. I more or less have isolated the problem to the CPU.
I think its freezing things up when it has to work a little hard. It seems to freeze during either a download, or usually, during the installation of anything I did mange to download! Then I have to reboot, and many times, I have to repair windows. I almost had the 10 copy on my HDD, but froze during installation, and when I rebooted..... it reverted back to 8.1

Tried different cards, and mem, with no difference. It will not run a whole process thru before freezing.

The MoBo could be an issue, but the ASUS Saber-tooth has a much better reputation than the AMD FX9590 cpu, so I am going with an AMD FX 8350, (or something like that)...... a little slower,(and cheaper) but far more reliable. The 9590 runs HOT as Heck and has a rep for freezing up systems.

    Hi

While a New Computer, makes a lot of Sense, if the Processor is over heating you could Try a Heat Sink and Fan, or as a Short Term Measure Run With The Sides Off The Case. (which is what I do)

If you get into the Bios you will be able to see how Hot the Processor is running.

Boot>keep hitting delete>Use arrow keys to Navigate.

    Esc (escape to come out)

    F10 (exit and save)

Although you sound as if you know your way around a Computer.

I don't think the CPU is actually overheating, as much as it's overclocked from the factory....the 9590 is essentially a lesser processor pushed to the max. I have it liquid cooled (Corsair H100), so I think it's just unstable. It is rated at 250 watts, and most processors run about half that--or less. I have read a few reviews stating just that....it is too close to the edge right from the factory, and is prone to freezing/locking up systems.

I guess I will find out later today, when my new CPU arrives, and I install!

If THAT doesn't work, either the Mobo is blown, or the darn thing is possessed!

Well, I am sort of up and running....I did not change out the cpu---yet. I looked thru my BIOS and found that my memory sticks were running at the wrong speed...they were running at 1477 instead of 1866 mhz. Changing that seemed to relieve the freeze problem, for the most part.
The system is still a bit shaky tho......but at least it is running.
I do not consider this solved at this point, as I do not know how my mem speed changed, or why the SSD drive got so fouled up. And although 10 is running, it is acting a bit strange at times.........

I was about to say reset the bios something overclocked. But you sort of did.
