Opening new window other than right clicking and selecting'open in new

    Hi Everyone,

Is the only way to open a new location in a new window in an explorer window to right click and select 'open in new window'?

Or is there a key you can hold down whilst clicking to force a new window?

I know you can CTRL+N which opens a new window (showing the same location) and then you can select the new location in that window.
    Thanks
    from
    Richard

Just some that come to mind:

    Win key + E.

SHIFT + click folder in Nav pane- opens new window

Jump list from the task bar

I'd say Ctrl+double click is what you're looking for. (Ctrl+click if single click open is set in folder options)

    NMI,

Thanks for that. I've never seen that mentioned before.

It was a lucky guess on my part

But it's been around for decades apparently, since XP/7:

Ctrl+Enter works too, for anyone using the keyboard more than the mouse.

3rd party Explorer apps are often helpful in enhancing Windows' seemingly limited capabilities.

Thanks for all your help, the only option that does what I'm after is single click the location then as per the screen shot from Dalchina, but this just as cumbersome as right click and 'open in new window'
CTRL+double click dosen't work, it just opens in same window.

I can't believe Microsoft haven't added a simple function whereby you can hold a key down when you click on a location and it opens it in a new window.
I know I can do CTRL+N or WinKey+E, but I then have to click on the new location I want within the new window, which is still not as quick.
I may look at 3rd party apps as Edwin suggests.
    Thanks for all the help.

It should. Unless you have "Open each folder in its own window" selected at Folder Options. (Because Ctrl reverses the setting.) But then you wouldn't need a modifier key anyway.

Nope dosen't work, on the laptop or the desktop. I realised the method shown in Dalchina's screenshot dosen't work either unless you have it set to need double click to open.
