Fixing DistributedCOM error 10016
I have SO many of these errors in my Event Viewer and thought I would try to fix the problem. I found a number of sites explaining what needs to be done and have followed this one:
Fix Error 10016 in Windows Event Viewer
My AppID relates to PerAppRuntimeBroker in the registry, BTW.
All goes well (AFAIK!) until I get to this stage, near the end (within Component Services).. "...Click Add and type in System and then click on Check Names."
The EDIT button works fine, so the PowerShell script did its stuff I guess, but the 'Add' button in 'Launch & Activation Permission' is greyed out. So the fix ends there - I cannot add 'System' or 'Local Service' and continue. Running Component Services as administrator didn't help.
When I click on the EDIT button, by the way, I get a popup dialog warning about unrecognized permissions. The tutorial linked to above says "Here you DO NOT WANT to click on Remove. Simply click on the Cancel button. " Whereas another I found, here:
https://windowsreport.com/windows-10-error-distributedcom-10016/
says the opposite: "ClickRemove if you receive the following warning one or more permissions entries attached has an unrecognized type)"
I played safe and clicked 'Cancel'. Was that right, in your opinion?
Can anyone help with this please? How to I add a group to the 'Launch & Activation Permissions' and finish off the fix?
(And has the Powershell script made changes I can leave, or need to reverse for some reason?).
Many thanks!
