    Windows boot up logo

Hey guys, I’ve been doing some testing here and can’t wrap my head around it.

one laptop, bios is legacy with mbr and installed windows 10 fresh and when I boot up the first screen is the dell screen and second is the windows logo and spinning circle.. great

Second laptop, bios uefi with gpt, same thing installed windows 10 fresh. Boot up, first screen is sell screen and second is a black screen with spinning circle, no windows logo.
Tried no GUI boot in msconfig but no.

    Any ideas?

Make a bootable usb on your good computer,Media Creation Tool is a reasonable choice.
Shutdown the problem computer, insert the bootable usb and restart.
If it does not boot from the usb, then enter the bios to see if the usb is recognised and if so,make it the first boot device.
The problem might also be a faulty installation on the original drive.

I just tested something, on the second laptop I changed the bios to legacy and converted mbr and installed windows and logo is their, seems to only happen when I use uefi and gpt. it’s definitely not a faulty installation but thanks for the reply.

Any machine booting in Legacy MBR mode displays the blue Microsoft window logo at that stage of booting.

A machine with a UEFI bios can have an OEM logo that replaces the blue window with the OEM logo, but this only happens when booting a UEFI/GPT install of Windows. This logo is held in the firmware's Boot Graphics Resource Table (BGRT). All bar one of my UEFI Dell machines do that, showing a Dell logo above the spinning dots. The one exception is a Dell E4310, its early UEFI version has some shutdown issues when Windows is installed as UEFI, so it has a Legacy MBR install and shows the blue window at boot.

What is your OEM, in UEFI it should normally be their splash screen appearing above the dots. I suspect your black screen with just the spinning dots means that its BGRT is corrupt, unreadable, or just empty. Have you updated its bios recently, perhaps with a custom bios?

The only supported way to replace the startup logo with a custom logo is to modify the Boot Graphics Resource Table (BGRT) on a device that uses UEFI as the firmware interface. If your device uses the BGRT to include a custom logo, it is always displayed and you cannot suppress the custom logo.

I didn’t touch the bios, I would think it’s just empty.
I have dell latitude 3330 and updated the bios but it’s not a custom bios, it’s from dells webiste.

I use UEFI with GPT and see the GIGABYTE logo with a spinning circle but no Windows logo.
If I boot the same PC from a Windows PE device in Legacy mode, I will see the Windows logo.

I would be loath to recommend re-flashing the bios just to see if you can get the Dell logo at boot, especially if you now have the latest bios. I'd recommend just putting up with the black screen with just the spinning dots.

But if you want to risk it, then you have a number of options. If there is now a newer bios, then you could try updating it again. The current version is A13. Or you could try just downloading the same bios again and re-flashing. The A13 bios installer package was updated on 17 Jun 2020.

Older bios versions can be downloaded from that link, the previous one was A10. It may be possible to downgrade your bios. There may be an option in the bios Setup under Maintenance that you'll need to enable first.

I repeat, my recommendation is to leave a working system alone, only updating the bios when absolutely necessary. If you want to experiment, it's at your own risk.

I re flashed the bios to A13, now ran into another problem, after the flashing process which completed successfully my laptop doesn’t boot to the first screen, it powers on with a black screen and shuts itself in a continuous loop. I removed the battery and power plug but doesn’t seem to work.
