Win 10 black screen after boot

I don't want to be here with trouble, but alas I am

So I have been running dual boot, win 7 and win 10. Today I rebooted from win 7 to win 10 and got a black screen in win 10 - no mouse. This was right after I selected Win 10 boot (just before the wallpaper screen) I rebooted and tried Startup repair from safe mode and that did not fix anything. I created a restore point yesterday I am going to try that next, but this nightmare just doesn't end.

This is unbelievable. I just made a system restore point purposefully yesterday and it now says "No system restore points".

Will not boot to safe mode either
Advanced Startup repair says "it cannot repair it"

MCT start up repair does not work

I hate dual booting with a passion and especially from a laptop....that's just me.

Now that's out of the way. What did the laptop come with for a OS? What ever that is I would do a clean install and leave it at that. Then get you a test system (old OEM tower) and use a multi-boot system. That is; an OS for a single drive. This way there is "NO" chance for the MBR to get corrupted or moved. Especially if using a MBR and GPT, windows 7 and 10 respectively.

You could use a 3rd party software like EasUS and try and repair the partition table. Hopefully get one of you OS installs to work.

Yes I can get windows 7 to work still. That isn't the issue right now. It is figuring out when win 10 isn't working. This isn't a laptop, it is a tower.
If I had enough money I would go to the computer store this weekend and building a new system instead of dual boot, but alas that isn't in the cards.
I don't know why all of a sudden it doesn't want to work and why why why my restore points are not there!

I guess I have probably used up all of my karma on this one, but I just want to copy some files from win 10 at this point and don't know how. I cannot access my win 10 drive anymore with the data on it from win 7.

EDIT I can see the drive fully in the cmd prompt.

I am in the process of trying to copy the files I need via cmd prompt to backup drive. Why I cannot do this in Win 7 file explorer, I don't know!

I was using this forum from the laptop is all. My computer with dual boot is a tower.
I can access Win 7 everything included (I am presently)
I cannot access Win 10 WINDOWS drive ,but I can access the other partitions.

That is what my drive looks like in the pic above.
    • The Local Disk E is my windows drive - can't access with file explorer, but can through CMD
    • Storage F is my partition for movies, games etc - can access from Win 7 file explorer
    • System Reserved is well, system reserved by windows. - can access from win 7 file explorer

Trying to edit permissions has put that funny icon in front of the E drive.

    @netrate,
If you have a MR backup or your Windows 10, you can mount it as a drive in MR and pick off the files you're looking for. Have you tried doing that - if I understood what you're trying to do?

    Steve, you are the best!

Yeah, I am using cmd line xcopy instead to copy the files that I need.

Luckily, although I have done work in win 10, I haven't done enough to cry just yet if I lose it all. Unfortunately, my Macrium Reflect backup is from late Dec since I have been using CREATE RESTORE POINTS and only now finding them ineffective in this case.

    1) So why don't restore points work in a BSOD?
    2) I don't know why I can't access this Win 10 drive from my Win 7 anymore using win file explorer - it say not accessible (but it is accessible using CMD)

Thanks netrate, I try, but I'm just a tooth in the cog here

I don't use Create Restore Points to retrieve files. If I've ever used it, it's just to do a full restore. Since discovering MR, I don't rely much on M$ Restore Points.

You really need to start using MR to make more frequent backups of all data/drives/important to you. It's so much easier to get your backed up files back by simply mounting the image as a drive if not just restoring the full MR backup.

Some people just have an external drive constantly connected and MR set up to do daily backups. Might want to consider that.

Yeah I am going to have to do that I think. I was only trying to use RESTORE POINTS to get win 10 back up and running from the BSOD.

any idea why I can't access my Win 10 drive from Win 7 using Win file explorer? It says "Not accessible"

Not really. I'll have to try accessing my Win 10 from Windows Vista sometime. I know I can see the Vista disk from Win 10.
