Windows search not showing file contents

(Issue is on System #2 in My Computer specs below)

I re-indexed the directories I wanted to be indexed, and added one to the search options that wasn't there before.
I also specifically chose the "Index Properties and File Contents" option.

When I search for a word or phrase that I know 100% is in a file, Windows says No items match your search.

What else do I need to do??

Hi, can you successfully find files by file name?

What is the file type of the file whose content you wish to be indexed?

In Indexing options, Advanced, do you have an ifilter configured for that file type?

There are perhaps 3 places where you need to have boxes ticked to enable file indexing- for that file type in Indexing options, for the file itself, and for its containing folder. These are normally ticked by default.

Inspect the count of indexed files in Indexing Options. Add a file of the same type as you wish to be indexed to the saem folder. Does the count increment?

Try adding a txt file with a unique name containing a unique string e.g. abracadabra, check it's added to the count and try searching for it.

Note that image based pdf files cannot, by definition, be content indexed.

History: (so often omitted by posters):
    - has content indexing previously worked?
    - when did it last work?
    - what has happened since then?

Build number: again, you were prompted to use winver to provide this when you wrote your post.

When searching for contents within a file, I find that searching from within File Explorer works well for me, like this:

    Just found this as well:

Make sure that the drive in question has the properties set to allow indexing of file contents...

It is easily seen in my System Two specs, which I mentioned at the very beginning of my post.

My apologies as I thought my first post had enough hints that I did everything I should do. This is what I did:

    1. Went to "Windows Search Settings"
    2. Scrolled down to "Advanced Search Indexer Settings"
    3. In the resulting dialog I clicked the 'Modify' button.
    4. In the resulting dialog I navigated to the directory that I want to be indexed, then clicked OK
    5. This brought me back to the previous dialog, where I clicked the 'Advanced' button.
    6. In the resulting dialog I clicked the "File Types" tab.
    7. In that tab I made sure the php extension was selected (actually ALL extensions are selected)
    8. Then (as I mentioned in my original post) I chose the "Index Properties and File Contents" option.
    9. Clicked OK on that dialog
    10. Clicked 'Close' on the remaining dialog
    11. Let Windows index everything until finished.

Searches still come up empty. Not for everything, but for most searches.

Sorry, hints don't work well for me. Hard data does. Been burned too many times assuming that surely something obvious had been done only to find out later that it wasn't.

    Thank you for your reply.

Is your file in an excluded location? See Settings:

I suggested you do this, and asked about the History...

Try adding a txt file with a unique name containing a unique string e.g. abracadabra, check it's added to the count and try searching for it. Create that in the same folder as your php file you can't find.

If you had responded to that, we would know if content indexing was, in principle, working and you could search successfully or not for at least one file type.

You mention php file types. I've never indexed these, and indeed php does not appear in my list of file types.
I asked about an ifilter. I do not know what would be applicable to a php file type.

I've found a couple, one can be opened with notepad.

When I added php as a file type it is indexed as text:
Windows search not showing file contents-1.png
    Is this what you see?

How do you start a search?
    - the box in file explorer?
Note that file explorer must be open at a point in the file hierarchy above the item to be found.
    - the search box (by default in the taskbar)?

    Apropriate screenshots could be helpful.
