how can I 'uninstall' or just 'hide' "protected" fonts?

I've forum searched and looked at other posts and can't see a solution.
do I need some reg-edit instructions?

I want to get rid of, at the very least, these ugly @ fonts that clogg up the immediately visible part of my list, (big time-waster). -- as an alternative solution I'd be happy with the ability to rename them, replacing the @ symbol with a Z to shove them into the bottom of the list

bonus points if anyone can tell me how to get it (Wordpad, MS Paint, etc.) to auto-preview highlighted text with the hovered font change so I can see what it will actually look ... like on decent programs (instead of having to click font menu, scroll, click new font, view, reclick menu, scroll, click new font, view, repeat... repeat... repeat until the right choice is found.

    It's really simple.
    Go to C:\Windows\Fonts

Right click any font and choose Hide.

On the right click menu... Hide is sometimes at the top, sometimes at the bottom.

Hide or Show Fonts in Windows

You can also, double left click on any font... to see what it looks like.

cheers, dunno why that doesn't come up in the search bar options!

um, not sure what you mean by this.
to be clear, I'm talking about, say, having a Wordpad document open, highlighting a paragraph, and wanting to preview what it would look like in different fonts...without 900 clicks involved. in a better program you can just mouse-over each option and the highlighted text will preview the effect selecting that font would produce.

Ok.... this is a bit weird, but doable.

In Wordpad click on the little arrow in the Font drop down. Scroll to the bottom and click on...
    "Show More Fonts".

You can then SEE what ALL the fonts look like.
Single left click on w/e font you DON'T want... and a window will open. In that window is a grey Uninstall button.

Hiding/deleting fonts in the C:\Windows\Fonts folder is only for global fonts.
Fonts that appear in every program.

    /edit

Ah ha! You can also get to that same font uninstall page by going to Settings > Personalization > Fonts
