I can see and feel your frustration, just on this alone. Had issue like this with my printer and external drive showing these icons in Device and Printers, seemed solved after removing letting it reinstall, but seems not the case with you. Unless someone here knows more and until i can think of another way, refresh might be only solution for now. What i do to rebuild icon cache i delete file then end explorer.exe in task manager, start it again from File menu, run new task, then reboot. Commands can be done in command prompt to do it all this way for you. Obvious this did not work for u, problem with my printer icon this did not work either, could be bug in some systems with Windows 10.

If right click the icon and go to "open file location" does it show correct there ?

Perhaps reinstall all Adobe product from scratch ( Deactivate, uninstall, reboot, reinstall, activate )...my cs5.5 has the icon associated with the program no problems at all. Obviously this requires a valid serial number and activation ( not saying you don't have this ).

Yes, it shows the icon on the shortcut fine. And yeah, it's not just a problem with adobe software.

That is the strange part it shows in that location correctly.Do a test, if go back to that open file location right click the file shortcut in folder select pin to start menu, just to see if it shows there correctly, as you can always unpin it. Has to be some kind of corruption going on.

I pinned to start, still blank. I also find it funny how now I can't even unpin it, it still shows it there. Time to restart computer...

Usually right click again, another oddity. Tutorial link below talks about unpin and pin to start menu, also shown you can drag and drop like old days. Don't like doing rebuild icon cache too much sometimes messes up other icons in process i found out at times, although i believe it refreshes itself each time the icon cache.db.

Have to look into this more, still chances of a refresh may be needed as last resort.

I really don't want to refresh my entire OS just because of something as stupid as this.

True, but unless find another way of getting these icons back may have no other alternatives. Refresh although will loose programs, but not settings, reset will loose everything like a clean install. As we saw reinstalling a program did not help way system is now, could be some kind of bug in OS can not say for sure though.

Exact same thing is happening to me. Did you ever resolve? MS icons are fine for me too. All 3rd party icons are fine, except for the start menu....
