How do I stop the desktop from moving icons on their own?

Whenever I paste something onto the desktop, the icons all move by one square to somewhere and I can't figure out how to stop this. I tried enabled and disabling auto arrange but it doesn't fix the issue, align to grid is enabled.

I just want the pasted file to go to the last area like normal. This is what happens for me:

    Please help, thanks in advance.

There's some choices for the icons on the right-click menu of the Desktop itself. But do keep in mind that the Desktop is not Static like a picture on the wall but Dynamic, always refreshing/redrawing. What is seen is held in memory and any change rewrites that memory which then displays on the screen.

Pasted files will get placed wherever you have placed your mouse pointer at the time that you click on 'Paste'. If you place the pointer at the last position then the file should be created there.

It seems to be working as intended now, maybe all it needed was a restart. And yes I also tried right clicking at the last position, now it's fine though.

That does seem to be the case, something from memory earlier must've been messing with it. It's fine now though.

You've just described the first process to use when having issues with Windows, reboot and see if it's fixed or still there.
