    Task scheduler stopped working.

Task scheduler stop working after two different events took place. First the PC started to becoming erratic opening and closing document and video files randomly. At that time I attempted to perform a system restore that W10 reported it as failed attempts. Later the Microsoft password was changed on a different PC. It has been discovered that in the “Task Scheduler Properties Log On Tab, the Local Services Account” is grayed out, but with a grayed out dot. The “allow service to interact with the desktop” is grayed out and blank. The “account, “password” and “confirm password” dialog boxes are bank. Both the password and confirm password dialog boxes are grayed out too.
Both windows Defender and Malwarebites had a day before performed a check and found nothing.
Additionally I have been unable to determine if I am logged in as the administrator, when I try and enter the command “net user administrator /active” it responds that it cannot be found. I am at a loss to find an explanation as to what the mysterious cause is.

I assume you don't have an image to restore to (Macrium Reflect free). Try doing a System Restore in Safe Mode. That has always seemed to work for me in the past.

This problem is bizarre. After my posting the laptop seemed to become more erratic and unstable. I found that commands initiated by mouse clicks would sometime require repeated mouse clicks. Sometimes the mouse clicks failed to perform the commands. Later, the task scheduler unexpecantly performed the nightly automatic shut down something it had not done for three consecutive nights. The next morning it continued its erratc oerformance. At that point I began the suggested system restore in safe mode. While attempting to begin operating in safe mode, it was interrupted twice to perform a three stage update. In both cases I was stunned not expecting any updates begun. I let both of the updates run their course. After each W10 rebooted the PC. After the second updated the PC returned to the windows log in screen. It's been about 12 hrs and the stage 3 updated has not appeared at this time. The PC sat idle for periods of hours after the second update was completed. W!0 never appeared to enter safe mode. At this time I have found that mouse commands are now much more responsive. Pending more time I question that the problem was caused by a failed update, and what Stage 3 not being installed will cause more continued problems. In addition will the automatic shutdown task run tonight.
