I Have A Bit Of An Odd Issue...

My Main System power settings are set to shut the monitor off after 15 minutes and sleep after 30 minutes for more than a year. "Wired System" But instead of sleep lately, the system shuts right down. I have to hit power, and I’m up in 30 seconds. I set the power settings back to default and then reset the power settings back to the previous settings. The system still shuts down. It’s not a real issue as it only takes 30 seconds to boot the system back up. "But that's hard on the system" The odd thing is! The system kept running without shutting down for the last four days without any changes made! And then yesterday, my system started shutting down again. I find it very odd. I’m running 20H2. No updates Defender scans come clean. Just cruise if anyone has a clue for this oddity.

Sleep has never worked properly, on any Windows version.
Sometimes it will work like it should for months...then poof... it loses it's mind.

Just Google... Windows sleep issues ...and you will see this happens all the time.
My personal solution is to not use sleep. I have the screen shut down after so many minutes, but that's about it.

And even that had problems occasionally on v2004. I have it set to put the display to sleep after 5 minutes...but it would mysteriously reset itself to 20 mins.

Again... my best advice, is find a solution to fit your needs, that doesn't require sleep.

Thank's GHOT. But random occurrence doesn't answer the question through any windows version. You mean to say that MS hasn't or refuses to fix another bug?? Why I'm I Not Surprised...

I guess I'll just F*$& up my system for the sake of the almighty Microsoft... So typical. OR! Take control. I'll have my system run 24-7 then. Better to have it run, then on and off. Better health for the system anyway. Just need a supply off compressed air...

Anyone ells have any suggestions other then Microsoft is to blame? Or is that all this is? I'm thinking that's all there is...

I think I found it. Hybrid Sleep was on in advanced settings. Although I have the system running with that disabled. I'll check it in the morning to let you know.

Oddly enough I find sleep works well for me with hibernate turned off. In CMD or PowerShell type powercfg -h off . That removes hibernating and fast start-up. Those are my settings.

    Lance,

And you can check the details of sleep transitions in Event viewer. You can use the Import custom view link on the right-hand side of Event viewer to add this so you can have a look
    Power - Sleep-Hibernate transitions.zip

When I identify something of particular interest in Event viewer I also note its time then look at it in NirSoft's MyEventViewer so I can look at the other events just before & just after.

    Hi Lance,

did your PC ever sleep properly with 20H2?

I never had any sleep grief up until the last surprise update. Using 1809 up until early last month, it worked exactly as configured. Now with 2004, I think I've only seen it sleep a couple of times.

Just for fun, I reset my settings to sleep after 3 minutes. After 26 minutes, there was no sleep action.

I'll post again after I clean install 1909 and see how it functions.
