Adobe Files moved from download folder to another folder cannot open

    Hi Everyone,

I have a problem with Adobe Files moved from the download folder to another folder on C drive then cannot be opened and become corrupted.
1 - Sometimes the pdf file does not save file extension *.pdf in new folder & requires "open with" Adobe acrobat.
2 - Sometimes the file location / address - shown in the file properties does not show correct location / address of the new file & therefore will not open.

I enclose a screenshot for your review.
Many thanks for everyone's help & attention. TIA

Hello @LammaLea , Welcome to Ten Forums.

I don't know what your "needs" are for handling .pdf files... but I switched to SumatraPDF long ago.
It's free, and has a tiny footprint. Not bloated like Adobe. It also reads most "electronic document" types.
    I use version: SumatraPDF-2.5-install

They are up to v3.2 at this time.

Adobe Files moved from download folder to another folder cannot open

    Hi Ghot,

Many thanks for your helpful suggestion using PDF reader Sumatra instead of Adobe.
It Worked for a short term fix - IE to move pdf files to different folder & then be able to open & save them with different name.

Normally I use / pay for Adobe Acrobat Pro DC for pdf everything - but in this case I can't understand WHY I can't move a pdf file from download folder to C drive folder without the file becoming unusable -IE open or save to different name.
I am not sure if this is an Adobe problem OR File explorer problem? hmmmm any ideas.

But for today the short fix - your recommendation of Sumatra PDF reader does everything I need..

Many thanks for you help & attention. L

    @LammaLea

I have no idea. I have never used Office or Adobe Acrobat. I just wanted you to have a workable solution until someone comes along who does use those programs.

A few forum things, that may help you also...

If you want to draw someone's attention to your post, either Mention them (with the @ symbol in front of their account name, or quote them). Both methods will light up the GREEN indicator at the top of the forum main page.

As for posting screen shots... I like Option One, here...

For your issue, I'll summon someone, that may be able to help...

    Likewise Sumatra.

A number of issues seem reported in respect of Adobe from time to time.

I have a problem with Adobe Files moved from the download folder to another folder on C drive then cannot be opened and become corrupted.
    - could it be that the download hasn't actually completed?

From which download folder, and how was the file downloaded?

    Hi @dalchina,

Many thanks for you suggestions. The Adobe file in download folder 'seems" to be ok / perfect file / uncorrupted. The download folder is default download is on my C drive. The Adobe file in question is password protect for opening. I did try turning off Norton anti virus, but no difference. I have never encountered this type of problem before. As I have been copying & pasting files within Microsoft Explorer for decades... After I have pasted / copied the file to new folder on C drive the file will not open in Adobe and if right click on file, properties the location is full of C:\??\??\ with error message "file location unknown OR file extension *.pdf is missing.

Long time Adobe Acrobat / Reader user here. You can put pdf file anywhere and be able to open them. I've got pdf files all over my PC, as well as as cloud backup services and all open without issue.

While the OP may have a problem, that doesn't mean the issue is solely that of Adobe as some would have you believe. Many have a dislike for Adobe so any posts stating a problem with Adobe will be met with "Adobe sucks get something else", instead of figuring out what the real issue is.

    Currently running Adobe Acrobat 2017.

BTW, you can always find posts about issues with Adobe just as I can find posts about the earth being flat.

    Peace

One the one hand I just tried to install the latest Adobe Acrobat reader for my new Mini. Without warning it tried to force download two additional programs, one being the classic pushy McAfee. Two words: Adobe sucks.

On the other hand Sumatra looks like it was designed around '95. By me. SPOILER: I don't design software.

On the other other hand... oh wait... I'm outta hands.

Guess you could call that a handy post..

    @LammaLea

    Try a basic check..
On the drive in question, (I assume C:) run
    chkdsk c: /scan
from an admin command or Powershell prompt.

If you try opening the file in the download folder, does it open normally?

Have you previously downloaded files from this source?

Propably your file's name is really big.
If thats the case, you need to change its name to a smaller one before moving it to another folder.
