You need to give yourself permission to edit the registry keys

Start by right-clicking on the last sub-key which in this case is InProcServer32 and click on Permissions the Advanced then change Ownership to yourself.
Assuming you're on Windows 10 click on Change -> Advanced again -> Find Now -> Administrators.
Then tick the "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" and also "Replace all child object permission entries..."
    Click OK
Then select "Administrators" in the Permissions window you first opened and tick "Full Control" then hit OK
Do that to the InProcServer32 folder and the {42aedc87-2188-41fd-b9a3-0c966feabec1} in both HKEY paths

I made an automated one-click fix.

    Attachment 39490

If you are using a 64-bit Windows 10, please use run_64bit.bat
    -or-
If you are using a 32-bit Windows 10, please use run_32bit.bat

Thank you Zash this helped for me.. i use run_64bit.bat on right click and Run As Administrator and reboot PC !!!

    THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!

perform a manual update , eset will update the module and will fix the problem

    from eset
run manual update to make sure that all modules are current. Check the About windows for information about installed modules and make sure the installed version of the Cleaner module is 1113. Then restart the computer.

Hi irvan, so to summarise, although you've implemented the fix described here successfully (i.e. registry keys changed as expected) you only have the symptom of the desktop icons moving, not explorer folder view settings changing.

If so, the cause could be different.

If so, there are some fixes you could consider, and after that, use freeware to secure your icon positions, or Stardock's Fences.

Manually update windows or ESET? I tried the last option (auto fix) that didn't work. I tried #2 - changing the registry keys and that worked for about 2 hours. I'm at my wits END. I have a project to finish and I have to keep wasting time changing the view size of EVERY folder each time I go into and I go into dozens per project. Thanks!
