Yess sorry, I guess you posted that while I was positing my post so I didn't see it.

Thanks for the help about how to change permissions. I did it and now the problem is fixed.

Both the folder view settings and the desktop icon ploblems are now fixed after changing the keys.

But how do you change back the change the keys ownership back to default?

Please, what guidance did you use?
I tried this, but still I do not https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFZsXI9sq34

OK, it seems to be solved now following the Eset forum thread.
For me the only problem was on Folder viewing but it's really the end of a nightmare!

Hoping Eset or Microsoft give an automatic fix for all people.
Not everyone is able to take ownership of registry key, change string. Even open regedit is for most people something horrible

When I opened the thread in Eset I was hoping for a quick response from Eset, but, in the end, it was the collaboration among users to give a solution. From Eset Customer care I did not have any answers yet after eight days although I send them all they had asked me.

So, thanks to all the users!!

    THIS IS THE FIX:

A FIX WAS FOUND ON THE ESET WEBSITE
I will provide the FIX here and walk you through it
    FIX was found by AREZCO

In regedit go to those 2 destinations

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{42aedc87-2188-41fd-b9a3-0c966feabec1}\InProcServer32\
    and
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{42aedc87-2188-41fd-b9a3-0c966feabec1}\InProcServer32\

Double click on (Default) and replace
"%SystemRoot%\SysWow64\shell32.dll" with "%SystemRoot%\system32\windows.storage.dll" in both file destinations then restart your PC and everything should work fine !!
HOWEVER you need to have permisson to change the value of those keys so to that follow these instructions:

You need to give yourself permission to edit the registry keys
Start by right-clicking on the last sub-key which in this case is InProcServer32 and click on Permissions the Advanced then change Ownership to yourself.
Assuming you're on Windows 10 click on Change -> Advanced again -> Find Now -> Administrators.
Then tick the "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" and also "Replace all child object permission entries..."
    Click OK
Then select "Administrators" in the Permissions window you first opened and tick "Full Control" then hit OK
Do that to the InProcServer32 folder and the {42aedc87-2188-41fd-b9a3-0c966feabec1} in both HKEY paths

As for the reg file itself that i uploaded Right Click -> Properties -> Security tab ->follow the general steps i wrote above

I performed this procedure and this error occurred:
Unable to save permission changes for InProcServer32

Sorry i can't confirm that. Visit the ESET website and try there, the link is in the first post of this forum
Hi, I can confirm those keys do not exist on my PC (I use Bitdefender).
As these symptoms (folder view, desk top icons) have affected many others thru several generations of Windows I assume there is another mechanism that can give rise to the same symptoms, as far as I know, without reliable solution.
