Correct. Uninstalling it doesn't do anything. My guess is even if they find a fix, users will have to restore their Win 10 image and reinstall NOD32 as the damage is done.

With all due respect if these files are important they should be backed up already. I remember getting the call to look at a friends daughters laptop. She was panicking big time because all of her University work was on a non booting laptop. I rescued them via Linux. That episode taught her to backup on two seperate mediums .
They are all university files (including the images which are questions), I can download them from the website at any time. But it is faster to backup over USB than to download again on my home or university connection.

I do backup personal files regularly.

You have all those important files in Windows partition? If so, its not a good thing. Don't you have multiple partitions? Also its better to keep duplicates of important files in multiple medium like Torquemada said.

I have dealt with some laptops with pre-installed Windows come with single partition that is the size of whole HDD. How come manufactures do this? Why don't they make multiple drives for users to keep files so that Windows re-installation or reset makes easy? Dividing partition isn't 100% safe and that too where Windows is stored and if broken then warranty is void.

Excellent, Finally they could reproduce. Now cannot wait for the fix. :)

May be they could also provide something that would fix the bug that users are facing and couldn't reinstall Windows.

    Thanks for sharing.
It has two partitions, Windows and Thinkpad recovery partition for when it had Windows 7. I will look into creating another.

Well actually it's very easy. I have done it twice just to see if it is in fact NOD32. Just use your backup image prior to installing NOD32 and then don't install NOD32 until there is a fix. With a Macrium image it takes me about 7 mins to restore my computer. When I did it the first time I didn't install NOD32 and the issue wasn't there. I like NOD32 and my subscription is good until next year so I reinstalled NOD32 and keeping it. Of course the icon issue returned. It returned after I did a complete scan.
hi may i know wich version of nod32 have you installed?

I've been reading this forum for the last several days...
I've reinstalled windows 10 about 3 times, last one yesterday. But this time NO ESET 8 or 9. Now i'm using AVIRA AV PRO (for test purposes ) and so far no issue, icons stay where i put them. In conclusion i strongly believe the fault it's in ESET. Just uninstalling the AV doesn't solve anything. If team eset gives us a good news, i'll come back to this AV solution.

    Lio,

I tried to download the Step recording, but no matter how long I waited (minutes, not seconds) or what I pressed it never downloaded or it just tried to download other things (junk things!)...
if you could, please attach the output directly in a post on this thread.

Thanks for taking this up with ESET, I read your thread over there and it looks as though they need an image from a systme witht eh symptoms since they could not reproduce the problem.

I took a quick look though this thread and was going to suggest resetting the folders, but Mr. Brink already suggested it here:

There's been some discussion about malware (real or false postives).
Some malware and the remediation of it requires system files to be repaired. Follow these two tutorials to check and repair system file corruption.

SFC Command - Run in Windows 10
    and
DISM - Repair Windows 10 Image
    5. To Use DISM /RestoreHealth Command

Please post if any files were repaired - I might want to see the CBS log if anything needed fixing
