To everyone who wants to do a clean install of Windows 10 to get this bug away from their skins...
    1. You can create another partition in your hard disk drive / solid state drive, then move all the files that you don't want to lose in that new partition.
    2. After moving your files, you can now format the old/default partition that contains your Windows files (Local Disk C).
Sorry, I misunderstood. I thought you said to install windows in another partition.

But creating new partition is last thing and only well known person can do it. Most of PCs have multiple drives or the user has external hdd to take backup.

Some laptops have single partition and can be divided using partition tools but there is a risky of losing files. I never to that atleast to Windows partition.

Well, why so complex? If you really want to reinstall windows by formatting then take backup of existing files to different drives. When installation is done, you can move back to Windows partition.

What about softwares that are installed? you cannot take backup of them because they have registry entries and app data so you have to install all again.

Also about your 2nd step. If you do so and if the partition is 1st one then you will wipe boot files which makes the system unbootable! Instead you have carefully delete files that are not linked to new windows installation. Ah, not a easy task.
Do you understand English? If yes, please do read my post.

I only mentioned backing up of personal files (to do a CLEAN INSTALL of Windows 10), not the programs/softwares which are installed in your system that obviously have their own registry entries.

wants to do a clean install of Windows 10

So it also obviously means that they will install Windows after formatting their default/primary partition then they will have the boot files that you are saying.

Do you even know why I suggested creating a different partition / secondary partition?
Because...why do the people would even ask "would I lose all my files" if they know how to backup (cut+paste or copy+paste) to an external hard drive or a portable hard drive.

Sorry but please don't confuse the other people who are reading this thread with your bogus reply.

Just use Macrium, Acronis or whatever you use to make backup images and just restore the image you made prior to this issue. Takes 10 mins or less. I am sure by now nobody is dumb enough not to have backup images especially since Win 10 is new and there are going to be issues.

Exactly, all this talk about reinstalling, unbelievable. I'm unaffected and using Nod32 and if the worse happens I'll just backup my emails and whip the Macrium flash drive out. Re-imaging takes 6 minutes + a minute to reinstall my emails. Job done.

Correct. Not that hard. The issue seems to have something to do with NOD32 quarantine a file. I did the image restore prior to the issue and everything was great until two days later NOD32 hit on something and the issue started again. My NOD subscription is good until next year so I am not going to uninstall it just to solve this irritation. Hopefully whatever it is will be fixed eventually.

I did understand you for the 2nd time but your advice isn't for beginners.

You just said to create a another partition but before that you need to have unallocated space right? How many of them have it? If they know all this things then he/she would have already created a partition from that unallocated space.

Creating partition from exiting partition is risky (I have tried it and sometimes files get broken so I never do that before taking backup).

Btw; This thread is related to folder view settings and desktop icons rearrangement bug and I don't wanna start teach people how to install windows so who ever asks it, I reply in short and sweet. Not a bogus reply!

It's not even hard to create another partition, it just takes time. LOL

    Hello everyone,

i'am also using windows 10 and facing this problem. I found the workaround in one forum saying if you create a new user it will fix this problem. Didn't have time to test it. Have anyone tried it ? Does it work ?

Multi monitor here too, but I don't think the hardware setup have any significance

Now I finally know the problem. Try to check everybody if you have error 0x80004005 in your Windows update. This error is changing registry values. And it seems when registry tried to change values, ESET/NOD somehow bugged it/stopped this action in the middle of it === and the problem is here. This error and NOD was always causing it in the past for users WinXP, Win7... But now we have Win 10 = different registry, there is no help yet.
Not sure where to search for this merror 0x80004005, but I did a search by event viewer and no error 0x80004005. And I never see any Windows update error. I have already posted my update history and there is no problem at all.
But there is this article on that error today

Windows 10 Internet Explorer update KB 3087040 fails with error 0x80004005 | InfoWorld

I agree with you..... and I'm still waiting for a reply by Eset.

Ok I found a tool called wushowhide.diagcab that helped to do de-select drives from installing via Windows Update.

Checked for new updates. KB3087040 and KB3081455 downloaded but like all others faced, KB3087040 failed to install. Did rebooting few times and folder view settings and desktop icons arrangement are working fine. So I doubt the update is the cause.
I don't have the KB3087040 update. I only have the KB3081455 update installed without any error the 9/9/2015.
My error begun the 9/17/2015 .... so there is no link....
