And when explorer view settings are changed, these change:

The commonality is interesting... that is, it is not unreasonable for a problem with both explorer view settings and the desktop icon settings to be experienced

Mine is. I just added NOD32 and my desktop icons forget where they were and align to left side. View align is unchecked. Actually I have found that I uncheck in the view Align icons to left. When I reboot and find the icons aligned left I see that the check mark reappears in align left.
This is odd. Just done a reboot, in depth scan as Administrator and another reboot. Everything is as normal as usual. Nod32 ver 8.0.319.0

There may be a common denominator which I don't have.

    Just a few things.

    1) Eset replied to my ticket and I have sent a log file created with their own program (Eset Log Collector).

    2) I sent also the problem step by step created with Windows Steps recorder program.

    3) In my situation the Eset program I'm using is Eset Smart Security 8.0.319.0

    4) I've
had no alarm for viruses. BUT if I check my Eset log files, the real time file system protector detected the day 16/09/2015 (When the problem with folder view appeared) in a program that I use since years (Roboform, that I was installing at that time) a trojan (a variant of MSIL / Injector.LWM trojans) then cleaned by deleting and quarantined by Eset. All this without any warning from Eset.
I did a search about this trojan and I've found this on Google and it points to ESET Virus Radar:

    Detection created 2015-9-14
MSIL/Injector.LWM [Threat Name] go to Threat

    MSIL/Injector.LWM [Threat Variant Name]

    Category trojan
    Detection created Sep14 2015
    Signature database version 12249

Detailed description for this variant is currently not available.
Whereby, definitely, even for me the problem with folder view comes after a virus detection.

Here's AskVG's view on Folder view settings (with a fix). The article is stated to apply up to Win 10.

"so you'll not face this problem any more and Windows will always remember your customized view type settings for all folders."

Thanks Lio.. yes, beginning to sound like more than one cause.
I'm still intrigued that I found registry entries which are involved in both the desktop icons being rearranged and folder view settings changing. But assuming those were affected by sthg, it depends when. For example, assume some program overwrote those settings on every restart... not just once..

Hey guys same problem here. I'm also using ESET Smart Security 8. I had this problem before, after a system restore it was gone, but today after a reboot it's there again. Tried all registry tweaks but no luck!

I Just Realized this problem Today...
Uninstalling ESET Nod 32 fixes it?

    No, it doesn't fix ....
You have to reset or refresh all Windows 10 and then NOT reinstall ESET.
