I've only had it installed for about a day, but ... I put my laptop to sleep last night, and this morning it was fine when I woke it up. Desktop resolution was as it should be, and my icons returned to where I parked them. Before installing 'DesktopOK', when I 'restarted' after 'sleep' mode, the resolution was changed and my icons forgot where they were ... so, yeah ... it looks like it worked. I want to give it a few more cycles, shutdown, sleep, etc., before I'm ready to give it a glowing review I'll let you know over the next couple of days.
Are you also having issues with your folder view settings as well? (change folder preference to thumbnail view -> close window -> reopen same folder but always displays list mode)

Same here and this issue is really bugging me.

I like the contents of my personal folders to display tiles but I can only get lists displaying now.

Also no matter how I arrange the icons on the desktop they re-arrange themselves after a reboot.

Possibly one of those unpublished updates could have been the cause.

I have the same problem too... (minus the desktop icon problem.. 'cuz i use rainmeter for that)...

Since I upgraded to Windows 10, my folder view settings always reset to list or details.. it sucks.. so much...
I already did that registry-edit stuff but it didn't work..
I'm also wondering why my two coworker's PC didn't have that problem.. I upgraded their PC to Windows 10 too. One uses Windows 7 Professional while the other one uses Windows 8.1 Pro..

I'm kinda a perfectionist and this problem has been bugging me for awhile now..

Me too started to face the same issue. Icons on desktop resets to default alignment upon refreshing and folder view resets to tiles. Didn't faced such issues on previous windows versions. Spent a day to find fix but still couldn't.

Edit: Couldn't find any fixes so had to do full reset. The reset option in advanced startup. Choice'ed to wiped everything in windows drive. Took 1.5 hour and fortunately activation was preserved. Issue is no more now, means windows saves the icon settings but I'm afraid it may break again.

Well, it's been a week since I installed 'DesktopOk' * ... after reboot or 'wake-up' from sleep mode, my desktop and screen resolution is as it was, should be, 'remembered'. So, it seems to be working, as far as the desktop icon position goes.
As for Explorer remembering my 'folder view' settings, I don't believe it's a problem, either. Although, I do often change my settings anyway, depending on what I'm looking for in a folder. But, as far as I remember, I believe Explorer is remembering my last view settings and reopening as it was the last time I was in each folder.
I'd suggest giving this little program a try, see how it works for you ... it might alleviate your frustration :) Again, who knows if/when MS will get off their assets and actually 'fix' this issue :P

    * DesktopOK 4.16
    Suitable for Microsoft Windows : Servers 2000-2012 Win 98/XP/Vista and Windows-7 plus Windows-8/8.1 eg. Windows 10 x64/x86
'Save and restore the positions of icons. DesktopOK is a small but effective solution for user that have to change the screen resolution often.'

i have exactly the same issue.. my desktop keeps rearranging and sets itself to like default view and sorting type every time i reboot it. i am using dell inspiron 3442 laptop.. just update the os to win10.. i have read some forums that it was caused by playing some old games with lower resolution compare to your default screen resolution its forces screen to adjust to match the resolution somehow made sense because i am playing old games with lower resolution but i'm running them in windows mode so my screen resolution is preserved in the background still doesn't made sense... but i don't have this issue in win8.1.. tried clean install - of win10 - the quick option did not include drivers.. still no luck.. it doesn't made any sense because we have the option to set it up but it wont stick on the memory so it's like we can't do it, it doesn't made any sense why we need to use third party application when that option is available.. it's a bug and microsoft should address this issue...

And that is the point. Microsoft isn't, or doesn't seem to be, addressing the issue, which is why we need to use a 3rd party program until they do ... which, as usual, seems to take far too long. I'm not pushing this little program, but ... it's free and, as far as I can tell, safe, so ... until MS gets its 'stuff' together and fixes it, all I can do is recommend trying it and see if it helps alleviate your frustration ... a temporary 'resolution' to your resolution

i tried rebuilding the iconcache.db using this guide over here. but still no luck... yeah i'm done using this DesktopOK application, didn't work for me.. i saved and restore but it will only blink the entire desktop but won't do anything.. it's like telling me "this is your permanent desktop arrangement and you can't do anything about it!".. the last thing i would do i think is to do another clean install of windows 10 and will include the drivers.. it might have something to do the display adapter drivers i'm not sure i'll give it a try... what a pain in the ass..

I wish we had a way of kicking MS's Support group into gear, but ... as my mom used to say, 'Wish in one hand, p*ss in the other ... see which one fills up first.' They're too busy focusing on collecting our personal and telemetry data, I think To expect them to do anything that actually helps its users with their problems ... not on their agenda, I'm afraid.

Well, MS Support Engineers have no idea about what they provide solutions. For example, check this link. Solution provided by support engineer is for previous versions of windows and that doesn't even exists in Windows 10. Question asked by user clearly states he couldn't find such option in Windows 10 but the support engineer failed to understand or something else. No further replies either. It means we are more expert then MS support groups. I think they are learning from us, so they are collecting our personal and telemetry data so they can provide solutions.

Its not just one example but community is full of misguided and irrelevant answers. Otherwise sfc /scannow is best answer they can provide, no matter what the is question.
