I hate Microsoft, the sloppiest company there is. If their programmers could only catch up with the prowess of their marketing geniuses, we would be happier users. Windows 8 was a stupid bust. So they introduce Windows 10 with great fanfare. I am so frustrated with Windows 10 since it keeps rearranging my icons. Don't they have the pride to introduce more than just a Beta version of their product? Have they considered turning over their programming business to Apple?? I want the stupid system to work and not waste time making corrections myself. Do you hear me you geniuses in Seattle????
Why don't you just get a Mac if you're so unhappy (and angry)?

Use this utility and be done with it: DesktopOK with autosave and restore. Download DesktopOK 4.24

    Did you try this yet:

You're really very fortunate if that's the only problem you've got.. some have far more frustrating and functionally disadvantageous problems.

That said, I quite agree with you about the relative carelessness and thoughtlessness evident in places - quite remarkable after all the insider trial period.

I don't know a lot about ShellFolderfix and I've never tested it. But according to MajorGeeks "ShellFolderFix is the solution to Windows not remembering their size and position and also includes additional tweaks and shell enhancements" not icon positions. But I don't know. They also mention it was tested on Windows 10 as well. You can read more here:

This worked perfectly for me - thanks for the link Intrepid (& Dogsled).

    Cheers,

Win 10 Icons shifted left upon restart work around. Right click on desktop select “View” uncheck “Auto arrange icons”, “Align icons to grid” and “Show desktop icons”. Reboot. Once you rebooted get to desktop right click go to “View” and check what you want. However you have to do this at every reboot.

    Good, practical workaround

This is a very good workaround to a problem which Microsoft should have solved by now. Previous versions of Windows for as long as I can remember have all allowed you to fix the layout of icons on your desktop.

    Thank you.

I've only just come to Win 10 directly from XP, and am nowhere near the level of understanding of the members here. However, the icons jumping around finally got the better of me today so I posted on another forum (actually for woodwork) and someone suggested that for Win 7 (which may work in w10):
Settings-personalisation-themes try clearing the check box "Allow themes to automatically arrange icons"

Well, that checkbox is there in W10. I am yet to rearrange my desktop icons for the umteenth time and tested it (because I haven't noted what causes them to shift - it just seems to happen), but perhaps that may help some people?

Apologies if I'm stating the bleeding obvious, and I haven't read the whole thread in detail, but you never know....

Thanks Roger, I'll try that because I've just discovered this minute that the fix that was suggested to me doesn't work......

All I did was leave the puta unattended for about 10 mins and came back to find them rearranged. :-( At the same time my firefox windows got shifted around and resized - that's driving me nuts as well, along with Folder windows only opening to the shape of the last one I resized - and on the monitor that the last one was opened (running two monitors). There is no "Remember folder views" button to check in folder options in W10.
